Hi all, nice to finally be part of this forum.

Can someone please help me.I am coming to Umhlnaga on thursday. I was told to do some fishing at Lighthouse. I dont wanna go big this tme. just wanna spend some time with the rod and reel. I wanna do some Karanteen, blacktail and grunter fishing

Is this a good spot? Any suggestions with regard to bait, trace or anything will be of great help. Never really went fishing for these rock feeding fish before.

Please assist

You should get your target species at the Lighthouse maybe with the exception of a grunter - it's a bit early for them and they are quite elusive on the north coast rocky areas but hey you never know.  You could also pick up a stumpie, bronze bream, rockcod or small kob (if fishing at night but know that they have to be 60cm in size) or even a brusher but that might be pushing it.

I would suggest you just use a simple christmas tree trace with two small hooks.  Any bait should do: sardines, chokka, prawns (my favourite for edible fishing) or mussels (you need a licence to get mussels).  You should definitely get some edibles on that set-up.  You may find it tough to fish the Lighthouse with light tackle on a full tide, I suggest you only fish the lighthouse on the low tide and fish the bay just 50m north of the lighthouse (inbetween the lighthouse and the new pier, in front of the beverley hills hotel).

No fishing north of the new pier

I dont want to be the "greeny" in the crowd but please befor u go fishing especialy after a long while check the size and bag limit on the fish u intend targeting.. The last thing we want is for u to get in trouble with Ezemvelo kzn... To increase the fun of catching small fish use as light takle as u can.. I for one use a 3weight fly rod and it's awsome fun.. Tight line's and enjoy it.. JJ

I am taking a few of my 5ft bass rods as well. Just for the fun of it. Probably gonna use one of them.

I agree with you the teardrop sinkers are less finiky and dont get stuck very often.

Thanks
