Howzit guys

Im looking for some tips for fishing Umdloti off my kayak ( paddle north or south, lure colours when using halcos and duster colours for couta tracesa) I was thinking about giving it a bash next weekend weather permitting obviously and has anyone got an idea f what the fishing is like there at the moment? :kaykak

And before i forget what are the chances of getting some livies there?

I use any colour duster as long as it is pink. My favoutite Halco is white with red head. I personally prefer fishing north towards the mouth. I haven't been out recently so can't help on that one. Enjoy

Hi Ets,

I generally fish for snoek roughly 50m to 300m beyond the backline looking for rips. My most productive spot for them is the stretch from the life guard hut north until the last big block of flats on its own (called Isikhulu).


For couta you need to paddle out towards the drop off. The drop off starts directly off the launch and is around 900m offshore. You should see boats and skis working it. The drop off moves from 25m to 30m to 35m quickly. We have caught couta from right at the launch to the drop off so good area generally.


For couta I again fish north to the river mouth as that whole area has lots of reef! I usually zig zag in and out working the 20m to 30m depths going up and down between the chain rocks and river mouth. The drop off is roughly 900m straight offshore and runs north from 27m to around 33m. Very productive!

For tuna I often paddle blind with lures looking for working birds or fish jumping. Again working the drop off and the horizon side of the drop off.

I have never really paddled south towards selection but a lot of good size snoek are caught just off selection reef.
