I have to report on the past weekend's Tzaneen dam tournament.
Congratulations to the guys from Tzaneen for an extremely well organised tournament. This is the type of organising skills needed to take competitive bass fishing forward.
Lures & techniques that worked:
The bigger fish came out between 1/2 & 3 feet on reaction baits, like Spro frog, weightless flukes and spinnerbait. The fish came out on secondary points and next to creek channels. The bulk of the average fish we caught came out on the main dam points between 12-15ft of water on Bill Norman Lavendar Shad & Red ear DD22 & DLN crankbaits.
Justy Varkevisser won the comp with a walkover 2 day bag of over 11+ kg. Well done Justy...pity you don't like sharing info. 2nd to 10th place all came in with ± 8 to ±8.7kg bags.
I want to comment on the starting position format: The thought of auctioning off the 1st 10 positions is nothing short of ingenious out of the box thinking!!!! The rest of the starting position were drawn directly afterwards @ the captains meeting. If this "way of thinking" could be adopted for other competitions like the Albert falls & Inanda, where it is 1st paid 1st in, more funds could be raised, and I am sure more people would enter. If I want to enter a comp and see I will be boat nr 135 starting...I think twice about paying the Rxxxx.00 entry fees, especially if I see big names like JV, JVZ..w.com ect starting in the 1st 10 positions. If my memory serves me correctly, position 1-4 was accounted for during the entry, where you could submit an anonymous bid, 5 - 10 was auctioned off for nothing less than R1000 minimum each.
I am looking forward to the guys from up North organising another big comp. I will definitely enter.
I heard a rumour of a big comp at Nondoni being organised somewhere in September. Please shed some light if you have info. I will also update if I hear anything.
Thanx and well done to Alan, Willie and their team.
