Two weeks ago I purchased a Swift 190 cabin boat. I would like to know if I can tow it with my Nissan Hardbody 3.3 V6 or should I get a Toyota 3.0 D4D for my yearly 1300 km haul to Gamtoos river? I really need help with this. The whole rig weighs plus minus 1400kg. The trailer is braked with a oil axel. I would not like to get rid of the rig I have always liked it but did not realise it was so heavy.

Oh no! I would not use that to towwith! Gearbox and engine issues. Rather stick with Toyota.

Yes the new Toyota does have a lot of power for a 2.8l. 130kw power and 450nm torgue. I think the torgue is similar to the V8. The decision for me will be to take either the 3.0 D4D or the 2.8l diesel D/C 4X4 to do the job. The vehicle must be able to run around economically as well when you are on holiday and one tends to forget that there is a (wife) life after fishing too.

Do yourself a favor and check out the specs on the new 3.2 Ranger. I have 2.2 Ranger and my boat weighs 2.1 tons on a double axle trailer. I never had the problems mentioned in one of the previous posts.

The fuel consumption when you tow will always be bad does not matter what vehicle you use.

I would also consider the Mazda 3.0l BT50

Big difference between the 2.2 and the 3.2 Ranger. 2.2 has never given the same problems as the 3.2. If you want to tow a heavy boat stay away from the 3.2 6 Auto.

Buy piece of mind-Toyota.

Had a Toyota, changed it fOr the BT50 and then upgraded to the ford Ranger.

Om eerlik te wees wou ek die 3.2 Ranger koop en ek is afgeraai as gevolg van die probleme met gearboxes. Ek verstaan die nuwe 3.2 is uitgesort.

Ek het vir jare Toyota gery. Niks fout met hom nie.

As mentioned just a personal thing. Much more superior to the straight six diesel(the old donkey 4.2). I often go to remote locations and prefer engines I can work on myself when things go wrong.

4.2 straight six, 4500 EFI, 3f, 2f no problem. All the new technology big problem in the bush. Rollback if it can get to you.
