Trolling Rapalas

How far back do you normally position your Rapala's ? I tried 25 seconds of line on free spool last weekend and had more hits than normal  ( around 10 seconds of free spool )

On advice from a seasoned js fisherman from ballito, 25secs for medium depth diver, and 80 secs for a deep diver

No wonder I have been blanking so many times

the trick is to manage the js speed for these 2 different depth rapalas as you  have them out at the same time.About 12-16kms appears to be ok

That is my benchmark speed , my old trolling distance was around 12 to 15 meters.

Cool bud,gave me a laugh tho, trying to imagine size of the reel! I'm off to Ponta for easter, 1st time visit and looking forward to it!

Main thing is to get them swimming right. The tip of your rod should tell you by its movement. Adjust speed and distance until you get it right.

My strike rate is the same right under my bum as it is when the lure is far behind me - as long as its swimming right!
