would anyone be able to give me some info on what kind of battery and charger i would need to power a 5hp trolling motor to be mounted on an inflatable boat?

if you can, i would also like to know a ballpark kind of figure of what this might cost me.

I would suggest you contact the boat shop /workshop in Pretoria West.

Sorry, not sure what the company is called but it's very simple to find. You drive past PMP factory (guns and ammo)straight up the road from them.

If you have not bought the motor.
Rod and Marine - has the best prices on Minn Kota's - one of the best on the market.
I would look at the 40lb thrust motor - this is plenty enough to push you around.
If you can go for a slightly bigger battery 105ah deep cycle around there probs set you back around R1200 this will give you more than enough endurance to get where you need to go and more.
Buy a high quality battery charger - 10A should be enough they cost anywhere from R500 upwards.
Fishton is quite clued up in the charger and battery dept before I take another beating........LOL
Hope this helps

Okay then.
All electring motors are measured by Lbs Thrust.
They usually start off at 30lbs and go as high as 75lb on tiller arms - although you do get higher ones.
At wide open throttle they chew batteries hence me suggesting getting a slightly bigger thrust rating -then you an operate it at the same speed on a lower setting.
I have used 45AH deep cycle batteries for small boats and they do work but there is nothing that sucks more than when you got no juice left and you have to paddle. Motto of the story - Buy a bigger battery......LOL

Rod and Marine has got by far the best prices - 50% cheaper than competitors on the trolling motors - but be warned if it breaks no returns - however saying this I would still risk it as Minn Kota's are well built units.

Batteries - buy a deep cycle - this is an inmportant and key aspect of using it effectivle.

Chargers try and buy a charger that has aboost cycle and then a trickle charge function these days most are automatic - this is a big help

PM me if you need more assistance

LMAO i agree with that statement. But still i would rather pay more and get a warranty with one than having the trouble of paying again

i just spoke to danie, and he said that he sold the last minn kota 40lb trolling motor yesterday. he said he is not likely to get thim in again in future as they struggle to get hold of parts etc. he's got a bass pro shops 45lb trolling motor, that he says is basically a rebranded motorguide. what do you think, ryan?

yip, one has to be careful. i have been to their "shop" at oom gideon's house, and always have a good chat with him when i am there. they are definitely not a fly-by-nighter that will dissappear in the highveld mist...

what are you looking at buying?
