After many months of planning a group of seven of us left Natal on the 23rd of April 2010. Our goal was to reach Flamingo lodge in 2.5 days. The trip was an adventure on its own. We took 21 hours to get to windhoek on the first day. 23 hours to get to lubango on the 2nd day and 4 hours to get to Flamingo on the 3rd day. The rest of the third day was spent recovering and setting up camp.
We spent 5 nights at flamingo mainly just casting plugs and spoons. Flamingo is an awesome place and we caught good fish there. mainly shad and garrick with the odd cob coming out. The best experience is seeing that garrick swimming behind your plug and then all hell breaks loose, i live for that stuff.
The fish werent record sizes but i managed to land a 10kg garrick and a 4.6kg shad. Most fish were released but we kept a couple for the pot.
After Flamingo we travelled down to Tigres. We did the doodsakker with no real incidents but at times was scary. We pithched our tents just north of tigres and spent three nights in the desert, awesome experience. Just us and no one else for miles.
here we caught lots of small fisd on dropshot, being shad, garrick and cob. one of us did hook into a monster ray, and fought it for three hours but lost it, atleast we got sight of this massive fish. A few small sharks were landed on live mullet with the odd bigger cob coming out aswell.
After a good three days we packed up and headed for etosha. stayed two nights here ands left for home.
all in all a great experince, i think next year we wil head more north ( between lucira and lobito, maybe quanza) but come with a boat to target those massive ambers
