Trailer Registration

Howsit okes,

Recently bought a boat and trailer from a guy who bought it form his friend some time ago. His friend built a new trailer and then just started using the licence from the trailer that I now bought on his new trailer. how do I go about getting the trailer on my name? The guy who has the licence paper refuses to give it as he does not want to go through the effort of registering his new built up trailer as this guy is now using a licence for a trailer which is mine.

Your trailer should have a number stamped or riveted onto it. If he is using that same number on his new trailer he is guilty of fraud. I'd sign an affidavit outlying the situation,giving name address cell number,I'd number (the more info you have the better) fill in the transfer of ownership form and take it tall to the licensing dept. I had a similar situation where I sold a car to a guy who promised to transfer it into his name and 5 years later I was still paying the license fees and trying to get at least the money back from him. Did the affidavit and gave his name I'd and cell number. Presto and the problem was his. ( found his ID on the Internet )

This could end up being a big head ache to get sorted. The comparison is not quite the same as in Holborsel's case he has bought the trailer without any documents.

Plugger sold a vehicle that was registered in his name and that the new owner did not registered in his name.

Lets say the guy who built the new trailer has either removed the makers plate and fitted it onto the new trailer he built for himself or he has grinded off the number from the trailer that Holborsel now has and punched this number onto his new trailer. Then technically speaking Holborsel now has a trailer with no VIN nr.(Read unregistered trailer). To try and get this sorted out following the system will be a head ache.

If the Makers plate or number is still on the old trailer(in which case the maker of the new trailer was not very sharp regarding the whole issue as he will now not be able to prove that the number plate and licence belongs to the "new" trailer) he may come right by making an affidavit and trying to sort the issue that way.

Only possibility I would imagine is to find a trailer manufacturer who is prepared to sort the issue out by supplying a new makers plate/VIN nr. obviously at some cost and most likely they would have to check the trailer and ensure that it has been built to spec and is actually road worthy etc.

Not to sure how legal that would be as they would obviously not have built the trailer themselves.
