Towed by Big Fish off Small Ski's

I've so many times read about how people are pulled along by big fish and either ending up miles from where they started or eventually losing the fish to the taxman.

Any one of you ever considered a small drogue anchor for such an "emergency".

if it's on the back of your ski just waiting for deployment and a big fish starts pulling you you simply drop the drogue anchor behind you in the water and now suddenly the fish doesn't just pull your ski that GLIDES over the water (and offers basically no resistance) but also pulls the drogue anchor through the water, which offers alot more resistance.

Should tire the fish out alot quicker.

you probably already have one on hand.... the indispensable collapsable bucket is an ok substitute, not quite as big as a small sea-sock, but makes a difference.

Its a very good idea, I have been towed by a small/medium shark, that my fishing buddy could harly keep up paddling. Its always fun and games.

If you have a partner - you should have a partner - joining two skis together also adds resistance. The two skis are brought side by side, your foot goes in other skis near-side footwell and the other guy hooks his foot into your closest footwell. the person not fighting the fish can also use a paddle blade to increase resistance. Just be aware of where the hooks are on your rapidly-stowed rods are, to avoid another problem altogether...

There was no time for buddy hook in, The fish was on and I was off, Could maybe have let some line go, but if it was a Black I would have been wrapped up in the reef.:sha

yea, you got to decide on the fly as to the best solution available for the circumstances at that time. the more experience one has the luckier you seem to get, or something like that.

I got towed by a moerse shark while fishing bottoms with my mate and had 200m of line stripped from me in 10 seconds! Thrilling stuff! By the time my friend pulled up his anchor I was about 100m away from him. I had to cut the line though because I was being towed into the shark nets... scary, especially when its your first time bottom fishing from a ski :p

So yeah a water anchor would be an awesome idea! Thank you neilg!!
