for a while now I've noticed my toriums handle has been getting stiffer and the small amount of play that was present from new had disappeared! today I decided to service the reel and this is what I found.

the casing was corroded around the bushing and basically disintegrated when I prised out the circlip and bush, lesson learnt...lube the damn thing and respond timeously from now on if something seems amiss! I have fitted a bearing in place of the bush which was seized vas and need to find a new circlip and washer to place under it anyone have any ideas where I could find them?

This is why one needs to replace the bush with the bearing as soon as you get home with your brand new Torium!

Very true Kraken.

Hi Dave, hope it's going well. Can't wait to get there in February. Why not check at FS, they had all the small bits last time I was there.

howzit Mario, we will try and leave some fish for you..lol,will try fishing speccy tomorrow for the clip.

@Kraken, I thought the 1st sign of wear on the bush would be more play..obviously I was wrong! the problem is that it's not something one tends to inspect to often and the corrosion is hidden from view by the washers and circlip unti it's to late.

Hi this why i always recommend folks replace that bush with a bearig while new i see it as a big problem one the drive shaft is worn one cannot replace that section with a screw like on the speedmaster as the frame runs across it there i can fix it but it is lots more work indeed. I suggest that bearing be replaced while new packet with marine grease and the bush i make fitted to help ensure longer life of the gearbox as well. regards
