hi guys

I am on the lookout for a torium 16

have you seen any in your local tackle shops?
They are not currently brought into the country by Rapala VMC SA.

No rush, but thats the one I want :)

thanks!

Some time back we also went in search of some and then eventually just stuck with the 15/30 which is basically the same size.
I just dont understand why Rapala VMC cant bring in a few with their next shipment of toriums...how difficult can it be?

I probably have one of the few in SA.Bought it on Sealine a year or so back in brand new condition. Had line but not a scratch on it.

Only fished twice with it due to being land locked but caught a small bonnie on spoon from the surf  2-3 months back. This is the perfect edible reel, size weight, smooth drag and casting.

Hope you find one

Did some research quickly.

The following reels are 99% similar to the Tor16:

Penn Fathom 25N
Finnor OFC16H

Interestingly the Finnor is the heaviest but the best with regards to line capacity and retrieval(49inches per turn)

The Fathom is about 20% lighter but has the lowest retrieval(40 inches per turn)

Tor16 is 46 inches per turn.

Tor & Finnor has Gear ratio of 6.2 and 3+1 bearing configuration
Fathom has Gear ratio of 6.0 and 5+1 bearing configuration.

There are other options available....my 2c.

And there is also the Daiwa BG35.
Gear ratio of 6.4. Retrieval is 48inches per turn.
Line capacity is the smallest though.
Bearing configuration of 4+1
Weight about the same as the tor16.

I actually want it for jigging :) And for hurting barbel :fishn

gonna put the DC spring loaded pawl, carbontex and 300m PE5/6...

Splasher yup it's the same as the 20 and 30

Lucky's in Margate is getting some stock soon, I will keep you guys posted!

Strepie thanks thats really helpful... So the Fathom has the lowest gear ratio which would be helpful in lifting jigs. It would have to have the narrow spool to be an option though, as well as a bullet proof anti-reverse system.. lemme google quick

Hi Aqua

I had a look at Torium 16's on Ebay, there is some reels thjathas reasonable price's, but I am a bit hesitant to go through the the whole import thing!

Currently looking at the buying a Okuma Cedros 10 stardrag,
I know that there is Cedros lever drag's availible on Rockhustler as well , which is not badly priced!

I've got a friend in SoCal atm, so getting one brought over shouldnt be a problem...

Dont think I'll ever choose okuma over shimano :)
When I played with the prototype cedros' a couple of years ago they had horrible binding issues, but I guess the production models should be a bit better :)

Not sure about the Torium but you do get the trini here , there was one for sale recently for R2600. I have been hunting them for a while now as well. If you like I could get the contact details for the Trini 16.

Great reel. R1200 is damn good price as they go for R1500 up. Spool it with braid and you have a good setup. You can not go wrong with it!!!!

Gold trini's are nice but a modded torium is a better reel and at least a grand cheaper

Ben, the Tor14 is my favorite reel by far, good all rounder and can catch any edible in my opinion.  Spool with casting braid and you are good to go.
