Torium 14

Good afternoon to All.

I got another torium 14 in to service. This reel was in need of a lot of TLC. The reel had corrosion inside, the anti reverse roller was not working, even the carbontex washers were not given any real torque and here is why.

Have a peek inside, check the corrosion, look how the grease has crystallized and now formed an acidic residue eating into all metal. The sliding surfaces, the gearing are all bone dry and this is where you require the most in terms of lubrication. People often say that any grease will do, no it will not with sea water especially. use the incorrect type product this is what happens.

Enjoy the read.

zero grease on the main gear all migrated away, bad news as this means wear as metal to metal contact

Look how the grease has dried out offering ZERO protection from wear and corrosion

Fully functional and protected equals a happy client. Remember you get what you pay for in terms of workmanship.

((goodp_

This is an excellent example of a very basic reel not being serviced regularly. It was probably not washed/cleaned after a few sessions of beach fishing and has stood dry for probably weeks on end.

Good quality lubricants are imperative to longevity.

Just like eating good ~ keeps you healthy!!

Hi guys

Where can I get Carbontex drag washers for my Torium 14 in Cape Town.  The old drags are finally finished...

What price should I be looking to pay - will be DIY'ing this replacement?

I can get off Ebay for about R270, but it's a schlepp.

Thanks!
