We have had a truely phenominal week of big fish. 635lb of double digit Tigerfish between 4 boats over 5 days. We probably landed 5 percent of the fish we hooked not very good but this was mainly due to tackle failure and angler failure...
Most fish were taken on livebait best livie is a western bottlenose of 3lb. This were floated out on balloon rigs.
To pull the fish into the livebaits I often throw a topwater as this pulls them in from far and gets the worked up - basically I use a saltwater Zaraspook fished fast.
On wednesday afternoon at around 16h30 while floating down the river in dead calm condtions I flicked that Zara as far as I could.. As it landed I saw a swirl and continued working it back to the boat... There were numerous swirls but no commitment about 10 m from the boat with the water clarity the way it is I could see a smaller fish(around 12 lb and a much larger side kick on his wing) finally the 12lb model decided to commit fortunately I was able to just pull it away from him but this big fellow was now turned on and promptly launched himself onto the zara.. Both myself and the guests watched the whole thing from the swirls to the crunch and the the ariel display as she went airbourne during the fight..
She came to the net scratching in at 19.5lb my personal best on a topwater and was safely released to fight another day...
These kinda memories stay with you for life......
