Christo dont get me wrong I see your point but most if not all those anglers you mention are all mates of Schalk and I can almost bet that some of the supercast dips you get on the shelf are watered down compared to the dips these guys have in their boxes this is just my personal oppinion but even I use supercast dips (some are really good)Then again what works for some people might not work for others (different strokes for different folks) Have a great day and tight lines Christo.

I don't agree with the fact that the dips those guys use are different to the one's on the shelf. I use supercast dips from the shelf and my pegmate is a sponsored supercast angler. Over the past year we have competed at the same level and i actually beat him over the year in club comps.

The reason why i feel so strong about staying with one of the big dip companies is because you want to fish with the same thing for years and not worry about another propable fly by night dip company that might not be available in years to come.

I really don't need to argue about this. I was in the same boat a few years ago, mixing my own dips, trying this company trying that company. When i made the mind shift to standardise and use only one company my performance as angler improved a lot!

I agree with you that there are different strokes for different folks, by all means use what you are comfortable with the above is just my experience.

Cheers and no hard feelings!

Great post, I was worried that we will get angry at each other.... I think the main thing is that everyone needs to make their own choices, and its crucial to get ideas from other people as well

Thank you all for the valuable input.

From my experience, I have seen two guys using the same dips and feed and bait and rigs catch different amounts of fish. I even posted a topic on it and Ryan said pheromones!

One thing have learned is to stick to the basics right. And I have nothing against buying dips its just that some people dont make the effort to see how the dips work together and compliment each other. I have seen guys with 30plus dips and they never catch a lot of fish.

Hey gents,

Awesome thread. Very interesting reading.

Im new to fishing and was just wondering if you guys could give me some advise?

How do you go about choosing what dips to use at what location with what conditions. I mean, do you use a certain dip for cold water and another in warm water. Then does the weather conditions come into it at all?

I know this must sound realy ignorant but unfortunately i am pretty ignoratn at fishing. lol

Whats best for clear water?
merky water?
warm water?
cold water?
windy days?
hot days?
cold days?

Thanks in advance getns and Tight-Lines everybody.

Crazie_boy, in merky water, carp can't see far, they can see right in front of them, but as from smelling, they can smell by far, That comes now to how strong your dip is, smell wise, and how long does it last in the water.

As for windy days, thats where TCP and garlic comes in, even strawlic(Strawberry and garlic)

Another part that I have noticed is what fruits come out at the time of the year.  like winter month we get oranges.  U never though to try Orange in winter, try it, it works.

Theres much more to be said on that, but that is different with every angler.

To me the bait comes 2nd.  First is the trace.

Havn't added my top dips yet, so here we go:

In The order I find them for myself:

1. Vatikaki ( I see nobody even mentions this dip)
2. Tjop-Tjop
3. Honey
4. FX
5. Bunspice
6. Stutterfords
7. Perdeby
8. Mollases
9. Tripple D
10. Garlic ( Always a winner when nothing else is working.)

Now remember, I have always been doing fishing with a canoe/Carp King. I have only recently made the switch to speed fishing.I have made no changes to my dips and found that I still have great cathes.

my old journeyman was Johan "Vlam" Saayman he was a SA fisherman and he always told me to taist the water if its sweet go bitter and if its bitter go sweet!!!

still havnt quite got the nak for taisting it tho, dam water taist like dam water!!!:fishn:SSS:fishn

sorry for the edit but my spelling up the wazzoo today
