Too big or just right and will they work in the salt too?

Yes i know the question has been asked before but I received a request to produce a grub that's well a little larger than LIFE i think but thats what the guy wanted so here's a pic, now will this thing be too big or will it be the size of the bass at the end of the line that will be determined by the huge size of the lure?

The green grub in the pic is a Zoom Fat Albert (just for size refference purposses)


Also will this grub style (with relation to swimming action only) work in the sea/surf etc?

I've seen grubs even a bit larger than that which is prodused for saltwater fishing. See the attached pic of a scampi lure, basically a twin tail grub, sending it with Hannes101 to Angola to see if he can land a cob on it, still have to make some large jiG heads though!

As I'm sure you've seen in the US they use large paddle tails in trout patterns to catch outsized bass in lakes were the trout are stocked other soft plastics are normally snake patterns as bass normally strike the head first. I guess you wont be landing any small fish with it, results will be interesting!

i'd say go for a 5 ounce... or.... a very heavy sliding sinker to recreate a mojo rig....

Littlegreenfish, go take a look at the Big'NGrub on the Unclejosh website, its 10inches long. They are the ones that produce the scampi lures.

 I was thinking around 4oz and a 12/0 depends on what I can source as hook sizes differ so much between manufacturers.One needs enought to cast not to much to spoil the action enabeling one to fish the lure slowly through deep gulleys.

On a related topic, DIY rattles anybody have tips? I'm sure the by inserting glass rattles into a lure of that size one can only improve it.

Yeah hook and weight? Rattles, well after a mold has been made you can do nything with the lure.....

True, but i don't want to go through all the effort of sprayfilling, sanding and making a mold only to find that it won't work, but from the other posts, it seems it will, so I suppose it's a Go.

Now hooks, I've got some 8/0 EWG Gamakatsu hooks, think that'll be enough or should I go hunt for bigger ones?
