Toggles for dive jacket

I've got an old Banzai 5mm dive jacket, which has now popped it's toggle ropes.
They come in 2 parts, toggle in front, round socket type at the back.

All the new suits seem to have velcro attachments, but this suit is very snugg on me and there's a fair bit of tension on toggles. Don't think velcro would handle it. Tell me otherwise if you know please.

Any ideas where to source these toggles?
Only option I can think of is dowls, drilled to take 3mm cord. Must them be 10mm dowls or so. Just thought of dyneema, smaller hole, stronger dowl!!!!!!!!!

By Jove, I've got it!!!!
I'll let ya know if it works and have a good dive weekend, I'm out, end of a horrid cold.:fishn

This was very weird, I posted a nice text but ended up sending only the icon and my name. Sorry the technology still has me by the Cahoons.

I wondered if I could maybe team up with a few guys from PE in PE to go spearfishinh when ever I come down that way?

My cousin lives there and I'm planning to go down a few times this year for a long weekend.

Thanks and sorry for the previous icon.

Right, I finally got to the job and here it is/was.
First things first, tools needed.

  • Stanley knife/scissors [/*]
  • Lighter to burn ends [/*]
  • 2 feet of 220kg dyneema [/*]
  • Old toggles [/*]
  • 8mm dowels, can use bigger [/*]
  • Rum and coke!! Can't do anything else without it.[/*]

Create a loop in the line and thread through centre hole, loop around. Place other end through "back toggle" and tie a simple knot. Finished toggle length should be around 30mm.

I doubled the dyneema over on this toggle to make it an effective 440kg breaking strain. No crotch will bust that.

I lost the other sides toggles so replaced with 8mm dowls. Could easily use 10mm.
Drilled a 2.5mm hole in the middle of the dowl, anything off centre will break very easily. I aslo used a 8mm bit to "counter sink" the rope knots. Thread dyneema through and fasten with figure 8 knots.

Job done and it works, went out on sunday and happy again!
