Sorry okes I didn’t mean to say the bags will be that heavy but I think the winning bags very well may be over six kilo’s

Let’s hope I’m wrong because that will be hard work to beat!! Shucks I’m sure by 11 on Saturday morning I’ll change my aim to just not blanking for the weekend….:fbash

I remember in the Emerald classic a few years back Zies van Zyl and Frans Bushventer said the winning bag for the 3 fish limit would be over 5 kilo’s. I thought it was nuts for 3 fish in December but they won with a close to six kilo bag limit…….these old toppies know how to fish ::respekt:

Hi Johanvc

I will be fishing with Grant. I was actually not planning on fishing the Comp with the trade show, boat show and everything being on the same weekend. But his original buddy pulled out and I can’t resist an opportunity to go fish so here we are.

Have you found a few spots on your Side imaging yet?

Best of luck!! Hope you all get 9kg bag limits!!!  ::S

Grant knows the river very well.

I have found a couple of spots with the side image. But we will see what happens with the classic

I see they are sitting at number 71 for the entry list as this morning. I wonder if they are going to have 100 boats entering

Howzit All

With the first day of the comp now behind us I can honestly say the Vaal has always been a humbling venue.

For the 100 boats on today (Saturday) there was only 153 fish caught. It was extremely tough out there!!

We managed to get lots of short fish and three keepers and that actually wasn’t to bad for the day. Not good enough to make the top 15 for Sunday but I think we missed the cut off by a few grams…non the less still out.

Seems the cold front that moved in really mixed up everything for most people. But still…..there are always someone that knows exactly whats going on.

Justy Varkevisser is currently second with his bag of +\- 6.1 kg and some other oke is leading the field with a 8.2kg bag for today.

You guys should have seen this okes bag of fish… will try and post a pic when I have downloaded the camera. Will let you know tomorrow I am planning on going to the boat show so will have a look at the weigh-in as it happens.

Just tought I could give you all some feedback,….I am totally frot tired now so will post again tomorrow

Well unfortunately the classic did not go as planned for myself and Ryan. We started off as boat number 4. The start was good and we headed off to our first spot. The water was really dirty on our arrival but we started fishing. Soon Ryan had the first tap but could not get a commitment from the fish. Soon after that I took a fish of the same spot but unfortunately the fish was about 1cm to short. So we continued fishing that spot for the next hour but nothing. We headed to our next spot and found 3 boats on that spot. So we fished the bank on the other side of the river till they moved off and we moved in but NO luck. We moved down that bank and I took a fish that was short and Ryan took a fish that was short. That was our luck for the rest of the day. Taking fish that were all under size and could not get one fish that made size. The wind was pumping so bad that the 70LB trolling motor had to be put on 5 to just keep us in one spot. And with the bad wind it was as if we were on the sea fishing. So not really a good days fishing. None of our spots that we fished prior to the classic delivered any fish and on pre fishing we got some nice fish over 1KG. But that is the way it goes. Some of the really big teams also blanked and some only weighed in one fish. So we don’t feel to bad. The next classic is in a month’s time at witbank dam.
