Tigerwakka spinners, crush the barbs or not?

I have a few Tigerwakka spinner rip offs with big Kendal style hooks. I crushed the barbs on some of them but that has left me wondering whether this is not a very dumb move.
It's hard enough keeping the tigerfish connected anyway so maybe best I put some barbed hooks back on there?
