Hi Guys.

Thanks for the info so far, decided to go down earlier will also see you guys at the comp. This might be a good opportunity to learn something on tiger fishing as I am quite sure that there will be a few guys that know what they are doing (just don’t think they will be willing to share much at a comp, but one can always steal with the eyes). Don’t have much hope for the comp thought, but isn’t scared to try. Bought a lot of “crap” but don’t know if it will work or not will find out after that weekend. I will like to tie up with you guys as well as it will be nice to meet some of the guys of sealine. I will tie up closer to that weekend and will watch out for your boats hope you won’t mind if I pop in and say hi.

What is your take on chumming for tigers. I believe it should work as tigers is also gamefish, but how effective it will be for them I am not sure, can any of you guys give me your oppinion of experience had with this, and what worked the best for you.

Hi,

Chumming works @ Jozini but there is a whole herd of barbel in the dam and beeg eels. Not always advisable. Also you will get many peckers if you chum.

Maybe worth a try.....

Yep, chumming isn't a bad idea. Tigers are shoal fish and move constantly looking for food. Putting a chum bucket down and "calling" the shoal to your location should work. Patience is the answer, it can be hell sitting in a spot that is quiet and hearing whoops of delight from other anglers a few hundred meters away as they go "on Dad".Just sit tight and the shoal will find you.

Chumming aint a bad idea, but in most likely hood you gonna end up catching more barbel and vundu and maybe attract some crocs as well.

Tiger fish love action and will attack anything that moves in the water. I am sure you will be better off hunting for the hunters using live bait and spinners (Carry a good few cos you are bound to plant a few spinners).

Moet NIE jou live kurpers vergeet nie. Soms is daar ouens wat die livies verkoop by die bonanza.

Further, don't take this as a given, but for me (after the first few bonanza's) it is beter to wait that all the boats go their way after the flare. Wees rustig ;).

I have already minced some sardine and liver. Don't know if this is gonna be successful but I would like to try and get the kurpers active as well, cause that should get the tigers also interested, whether this is gonna work remains to be seen as this will be my first tiger trip, and I don't really know what to expect. Got lots of experience with gamefish and most freshwater species but not tigers. Quite true what you said Jacques we already decided to wait till most boats is gone and then launch, luckily I don't get excited about comps, done enough of them to know, and we don't bargain on winning anything on this one but will definitely want to learn on this comp, Just hope to catch one small tiger just to get the feeling +/- 10kg one will do He He He. Won't say what my mates said when I made this comment to them. I will probable try different techniques Livies, dead bait and lots of spinning and also taking the jigging tackle with, don't worry much about a game plan on this trip just gonna play and see what happen. Some one mentioned that you can buy live kurpers from the locals, do they sell live tigerfish as well. Thanks for the advice on the chumming will be very careful with the quantities.

Don't forget the dropshot as well - just get the colors right

Now it's getting interesting. Never seen anyone dropshot for tiger before!! How do you rig that up? Steel or no steel trace?

Any combo (color) with some white 3" - 5" will do the trick - blue and white or chaurteuse.

Have you never tried dropshotting for Catfish (baber)?

Nope not for barbel although I have caught them on bass flies, do dropshot for saltwater fish mostly. Especially in the estuaries allows the kids to join in the fun as well. My daughter caught a nice 1kg kingie on our last trip outfished the boys.Got the equipment so will try it at Jozini got a few nice softies that I use for saltwater will see if they will work.

Hi all,

NExt year I'm booking a seat on Mike's boat ---- seems these boys are doing something right - they won the boat again this year.

 

Congrats guys - sorry I didn't hook up with you but it seemed a lil caiotic at the time.

We ended up with one of 2kg just off the 15th prize but we only used artlure sufficed to say we caught in excess of 100 tiggers over the 2 day period many of them were rats n mice (lil ones).

I'm sure you would have seen us as we did you but just weren't sure who you were.

We were Team Goya in the yellow shirts. Needless to say 90% of the peeps there were wearing yellow shirts.

Congrats again.

Thanks Ryan. Yep, we had a great comp!! I think we will have to exchange cell numbers before the next one. That way we stand a better chance of hooking up. It looks like I will have space on my boat next time, now Chris has his own boat. (He sold the last one). Lucky B****d. We had 5 identical baits down all within a 20m radius, and the big old hen fish chose his.

Rumour has it that it was caught in exactly the same spot @ almost the eact same time as when you boys wonm it two years ago. well done

As they said at the compo - "Hierdie manne ken die damme - en weet van tiger vis hengel".

Chris one last question? Are you all Zim Boys? We were two zimbo's up on our Boat.

Glad you didn't won the boat, Damn what you gonna do with two lovely boats, saw your boat friday afternoon but was busy cleaning ours as we lost our motor and took it to the parks board spot to wash. Must say you got a lovely machine there. We lost two of your four boats due to motor problems, grass blocking the water ports and overheated, at least the guys was nice enough to pull us close to the bridge on saturday to fish, dropped anchor in the reeds and just chilled untill they towed us back the afternoon again. Luckely i've got your boat name will follow you like hawks on the next one(just joking. will be at Loskop for the barbel comp at least I know how to catch them. RTeally enjoyed the tiger comp learned a lot and glad I went, only caught barbel on the comp at least got something, lovely dam to fish on just need to find the hot spots like you guys did. Congrats on your cathces Mike and Ryan. How did you do Vicky

Were you guys in the green ski boat?

We were pulling out and we saw you being towed into the slipway.

SO close damn and we didn't even get to meet you.

ANyways your motors cooked or still running?
