Tigerfish Bonanza - What Happened?

Maybe the letter helped.. or there’s a definite change in the mindset of most of the anglers. As mentioned in the catch &release vote post, the 20 biggest fish received prizes and of this 20 fish, 15[/b] were released, including the winning fish.
Fishing was tough (for our group anyway..). The smallest in the prizes (20[suP]th[/suP] place) was 3.8kg and the winning fish 5.7kg.

we also fishing the comp. Upon entry into the comp I just took it for granted that it would be C&R and was shock to find out that is was not. But anyway we had paid for it and i was not going to pull out.
We can in 14th with a tiger just under 4.1kg, caught it on a spoon. That is the only way we fish jozini. I could think of nothing more boring than sitting in a spot the whole day with a piece of meat in the water.
I was very pleasantly surprised that most of the fish were put back. I will fish this comp again, allot of the guys there release there fish and it was not a complete slaughter over the three days.
On the first day the minimum weigh in fish was 1kg. This i think was way to small and it caused a few smaller fish to bite the bullet and take on for the team. I would suggest that they make the minimum weigh in at at least 2-2.5kg on the first day.
Has anyone ever used live frogs for bait?? Just a thought?

Yes they did (and trust me the attitude was one of F.... Y..) and asked everyone to post a message on sealine saying that only 5 fish out of top 20 killed, but they dont mention all the others that dont make the top 20 that died. I think we under estimate the reach that ESA, Sealine and other forums and are having and play a direct role in the amount of fish that are realest. Lets just keep up the C&R way of thinking and it will rub of on the rest. I was at the weigh in station and noticed a guy trying his best to revive a fish and he was not a happy camper when he could not so the guys are trying.
We departed Pretoria at 23h00 on 21 September with eager discussions about tactics for the 2010 Tiger Fish Bonanza. The stop/go road works are still in place and a major pain. On arrival at Pongola we discovered that the boat battery cables had been cut and the battery stolen (We are told that at the road works stop they jump onto your boat just as the light turns green, then have all the time till the next stop to sort out what they want, at the next stop they jump off). R1200 new cables and battery and we are back on the road.
Wednesday we launch at 12h00 after setting up camp and spend a nice day on the lake looking for spots.

Water Temp 22 deg and we launch after the main field at our leisure and head out to the main dam.
At 09h30 Fish on 1.2kg and a good start to the comp

Ended day one in 2nd place. Dropped down to 5th place @ the end of the comp.
All fish taken during the comp on my boat released.
Day 2 and 3 of the comp the wind picked up and my boat battled with fish being lost, missed etc etc etc.
Next year we will be back and try our best to spread the word that C&R is the only way 2 go.
