good luck guys, there are to many boats on the water for me and the fish during the classic, I'm going there the week before so hopefully we can catch.

There are also some magnificent Kurper in the dam which is superb eating. Last February one of our spots produced literally hundreds of Kurper around .75 kilo with a few going up to 2kg's, we only kept a couple for the evening braii which were magnificent :fishn

where's my spots, there are several, this time of year the river should be good as the fish are getting ready to move upstream to spawn when the rains come. Trees, gulleys bays etc

 

I caught my big tiger on the eastern side of the dam by the Swazi boarder marker in 4m of water

My best spots

Launching from Pongolo Poort, on the Golela border post....
I fish to the right of the launch pad...into the gullies, The water is shallow and plenty of structure there.

Second spot is near the Thatched house directly straight accross from the launching area.

I found that my fishing is more rewarding in shallow waters rather than deep in Jozinini.

I'm starting to work on getting my tackle polished! Almost time to go Tiger hunting.

Something to try are circle hooks size 4/0 particularly when drifting live bait, another trick is to change the tail hook on a Rapala or Halco to a chemically sharpened single on which I sometimes put another hook as sometimes they bite short.

I've also used plastic worm hooks as for bass, again straight shank and chemically sharpened, the longer shank allows better attachment of the sardine fillet.

The sardine fillet is tied on flesh side outwards as you do for shad or snoek in KZN. Chicken livers can be added as its the blood that initially attracts the fish.:fishn

I've had more success using bait runner type reels particularly when using sardine fillets as the tiger can bite quite softely and will pick up the bait and move off if they feel any resistance they drop the bait, so bait runners or open spools is the order of the day.

Hi All, Just to give you some news. I spoke with a guy who fished Josini on Friday and Saturday. He got a 5kg and a 6.2kg in the two days. Sounds promising given that we won the comp on a 6.3 last year. P.S. both were caught on Sardine fillets.

the tigers are busy this year.
i talked to kemp landman and they caugt about 10 tiger above 3kg's with the 6.2 caught this past weekend. haven't gotten any rain as of yet so i think they wait for the rains to go upstream. dodger where did you catch those kurpers? been fishing josini my whole life and never caught a decent kurper there? i of my mates in pongola's girlfriend caught a 4.2kg blue a year or so back.
ps. i live in pongola.
