Good Evening All.

Have a look at what the Tiagra 50 W looks like inside.

Check closely there are a few hidden tips for those who service reels themselves to find value in.

Check the build quality, check the gears; both hardened stainless main and pinion in 2 speed, check the high torque carbon fiber drag, check the side plate held anti reverse double dogs, check the solid main shaft, solid spool shaft, large over sized handle shaft and handle itself, this handles huge amounts of torque and can serious power onto fish without breaking or falling to pieces.

Now look at the solid side plates left and right, look at the thickness of the casings, also the frame thickness, pay attention to the quality of the anodizing as also the robustness of the ratchet assembly as this works especially hard when catching tuna and larger game fish species.

The bearings are all nice and large and thick to handle sustained pressure from large game fish.
The torque curve on the 50W up is amazing for huge fish fighting power remaining totally smooth at all times during long fights.

There are so many ticks in the right places here, shimano has put a lot of thought into these reels for sure.

Enjoy the read, Jonathan.
