This is near Vryheid/Paul Pietersburg. Unfortunately I confess that I actually know the guy and these are also not the first photo's I have seen like this Not to say we mates I just played club rugby with the guy for a couple of years.

This guys are also responsible for hunting other species of fish

I'll bite.
No it's not on, not even remotely! Every fish they shoot is a fish out of the system. They are also targeting the bigger fish, ie. our breeding stock. So they are targeting our breeding stock.

It would however be great if we could get some stats, like how many fish per outing these guys shoot.

Dammit! Now i'm just plain upset ! ! !:headb:swear:ssswim::uzi

This new specie of bowhunters is probably not up to hunting real game at all. They therefor target fish where they can approach real close and see the prey clearly through their polaroids. It`s almost as bad as shooting game at a waterhole and really enough to make me wanna throw up.

Without opening a can of worms - what is the difference between shooting a Bass with a bow for the pan or catching it with hook line and sinker

but yes I dont like hunting

Raggieman, that's why the stats would be interesting. If it's one or two medium sized fish for the pan fine. But as far as I know these guys are targeting trophy sized fish to fuel their ego's not their bodies.

This sport will still become very big all over and i recon some fish species will be destroyed sooner or later.

Humans love killing.....this is the pathetic race we are.

Now Now, guys, lets not condemm the poor bloke, he probably doesn't know how to work a rod and reel, way tooo difficult I suppose and here's another thought, perhaps he's extremely poor and got the bow for christmas last year, shame, maybe we could organize him some real fishing gear.....

oooooo what a nice fish i shot, eheheheheh great isn't it, hey mommy?

I was on the vaal this weekend and if I had a bow I could have shot and killed about a dozen carp and 6 or more huge barbel with out even raising a sweat or having to move much. It would have been a slaughter - the fact that you cannot release these fish is what bothers me the most.

I know you guys aren’t gonna agree with me on this but bow hunting fish won't be a problem if they can do it responsibly, unfortunately I don’t think it will happen. Just keep in mind how many fisherman takes fish and sometimes a lot, they are also killing our fish stocks and bragging about it (like last night at the pub, carp spawning and they caught at least 30+, which is no problem. When asked what they did with the fish they told me that they gave it to there workers come on man 30+ fish that’s killing them and yes I told them so). If one could get these bow fisherman to take one or two fish at a time and use our fish resources wisely then I won’t have an issue with them. Some species isn't endangered such as carp and barbel etc. I personally don’t like to take fish home for the simple reason I don’t eat carp or barbel if it’s a trout, bass or kurper then I might take one or two for the pan if the dam is well stocked and release the rest but most of the time I don’t even take anything home when fishing freshwater. What worries me is how one will be able to educate these guys to take only one or two fish at a time. I also do bow hunting for a few years now standing still and hitting a small target at 30 meters is no problem on a boat it might be a different story so it will probably take a lot more skill. Saying that the only thing I don’t understand from these guys is that, why is bigger better with a bow shooting a 1kg fish from ten meters is a much bigger achievement than shooting a 10kg fish from the same distance. I won’t condemn them if they can do there sport responsibly but looking at the web link seeing all that fish on the one photo I don’t think it’s gonna happen. From that point of view I will also agree rather ban the sport they are hunters not fisherman and I don’t think they will do this sport from a conservational point and use and not abuse our resources, which is a pity cause most of them will unfortunately just murder as much as they can in a day. I think most bow hunters or hunters (this includes fisherman like us as well we also hunt something we just don’t have to kill what we hunt) are responsible people. The bottom line is that you will always get “cowboys” in any sport and with bow fish hunting it will be the same. Bow fish hunting is probable a very difficult facet of bow hunting same as spear fishing you are gonna kill the fish so please guys practice it if you want but do it responsibly or go HOME if you can’t.

That can work. But how about a rocket launcher. One shot and problem solved
