tp:: , you decide, but here's my little take on the matter.

CAR is nothing short of an extremely complex, multi-level, multi-faceted minefield, loaded with way too much unstable unknown things (explosive devices, so to speak)

So this might not be a simple post nor a resolving one, although I'll try to stick to both.

CAR is kind off a new concept to most people that holds a rod and reel in their hands trying to catch a fish.  So, it's almost still a qualified Buzz-word/phrase and as is the case with these things, they're not fully understood nor fully known and/or tried and tested, and hence you'll find alot of unsavoury issues surfacing in the beginning.

Exacerbating this is the complexity and diversity of angling, adding to this is the recent crazy (sometimes "Cry-wolf" like) worldwide ecological cries for a better environment, etc. etc. , need I mention them?  Complexity and diversity? Think about it, there's Salt and Fresh water angling, there's recreational, sustenance and commercial angling, there's ecologists, conservationists and politicians, all types of media, habits, opinions and interpretations and these are just some of the facets to mention.

Now surely you cannot apply CAR in the same way to commercial fishing (which is why they are regulated by the authorities), the same applies to the guys fishing to feed his family, salt more than fresh (I suppose) and recreational or sport angling.  You cannot call for CAR (law orientated) of alien species as you would be able for endangered ones.  You cannot force some bloke or gal to CAR if they don't know why or don't understand the reasoning behind it.  You cannot judge a pesron (staying within the legal bounds) that doesn't CAR recreational or otherwise.   

There is just no easy answer nor is there a quick fix or just one point of view that's correct, all there is, is the law, concerns for a sustainable future (only PROPER Research based counts in my books) and ultimately the angler/fisher's conscience.

So what am I saying?

First understand CAR completely before you even try and educate or inform others!

Inform and educate the person that doesn't know but don't be an obsessive idiot about it. 

Lead by example.

Keep within the limits of regulations.

If you're doing angling as a recreational thing CAR if you can. You don't have to but it would be nice.

LGF----It is complex hey.Loams point in the original post about political correctness has to do perceptions and how people want to be seen to be doing the right thing and whilst I agree that it is great to set a good example , I think it will have very very limited effects as simply an example.My post yesterday was trying to to get at the double standards I guess. You say you cant judge a person who isnt releasing but the problem is that that is great in theory. Not in practice which is why there is this need for people to advertise that Loams talks of. 

 Everyone is freaked out about the environment and rightly so. Its being trashed at spectacular pace. Leading by example is great if people are going to take your cue but results will probably be better with youngsters than guys more set in their ways.Gets kids to understand it as just normal that you do it whenever you can or feel its right etc is probably a much more realistic long term goal .

I reckon a camera is of huge importance so that the option is always there
