685 Butt cat came in today from the deep running 2x Brand new Yamaha 115's just past Rocky bank on the way in Starboard motor blew a gearbox , needless to say crew was not full of smiles taking 3hrs back to Harbour Island on one motor.

Luckily they are still under warrantee ^^..

Not a great advert for the most expensive brand of motors money can buy when their main rivals in Honda and Suzuki are proving to be exceptionally reliable. But I suppose all manufacturers have the odd issue.

If that is the butt of the guy who phoned me for advice on my motors and then did not take it then I feel a little less concerned. Could happen to anyone though and I do not wish it on my worst enemy.

One of the Commercial guys , running a 25ft CapeCraft had a set of 250hp 2Stroke Yamaha 's for Ages , recently upgraded to 2x250hp 4strokes (Yamaha) , 3 months into it same thing gearbox went. Skipper Says the new 4 Stroke Yammies cannot push weight the same way as his old v6 2's , When Empty the 4 Strokes /run similar to the old 2's.

I hope you was keeping within the manufacturer guidelines for running the engines in. I take it you have to run them low revs for a while.

Cannot Say , but does not seem like powerhead issues butt all are gearbox related, lucky I don't have a horse in that race !

The Commercial skipper yes , the 685 Butt not at all - 3 crew , Tackle , 1 YFT - 65kg. Was interesting to see Yamaha's on a Buttcat as Suzuki/Mercs are usually the motors of Choice.
