Thx Barryfish for that, no, not trim and tilt, I have set it to the lowest notch and it is the inside motor, ie, the one lower in the water that cavitates.bw_l_)vvbafvv

Dooma,

6000 rpm sounds too high

Make sure your props are the right diameter, and if they are, borrow one which is one inch higher pitch

Smaller "flatter" props will always be more prone to ventilate

If this does not help you are going to have to lower both motors
slightly

Also make sure your motors are toed in a few millimeters (6-10 I would guess on that flattish V)

Hi guys.
Well, I took all your advice a couple of months ago and my project is slowly coming together, after purchasing the 15'6, I had the deck lifted, stringers and bulkheads were in perfect condition, put extra buoyancy to conform to new regs when they are gazzeted, put live well, put power steering, and hung two 50's on the back, still got other bits and pieces to do but getting there slowly, time and money as usual.
Question, I took it to the dam to do first test, all worked superbly well except for one thing, I have a cavitation problem when I turn, she runs beautifully through to full speed at 6000 rpm so props are good. At half speed even, if I try turning, she cavitates, if I increase throttle on outside motor and decrease on inside motor it manages a lot better, similar to turning a cat. What could the possible problem be, I attach a pic of motors being installed, as you can see, trim plate is level with the bottom of the hull.
Many thanks once again for all the advice to this point.^^..

The trim plate should be 25mm below the hull.

What new regulations are going to be gazetted, the B.I.B marine notice has been out for a while.

Thanx for all that info guys, I will go back to the drawing board and check all of those measurements.
With toe in, is that the front of the motors, ie, facing forward away from the prop, ie, pointing in towards the bow?
Many thanks for the info.:::S

Yes, centres of the two gearbox cones closer to each other than the centres of the two prop shafts to each other

Fantastic Thica , you're a legend, much appreciated, as soon as I get home in a week or two, I will put all these measurements in place, final product will be revealed, very exciting times for me, plan to fish flat out till mid January.
Thanx to one and all.

Hi Everyone,

Well at long last - the boat is complete and the big day arrived.... ::S

We took her out to Bronkhorstspruit dam yesterday and thankfully she ran very well - definitely a marked improvement in power after the motors where overhauled !

Now I need to get her to the ocean a.s.a.p :beer:beer

Hi Thika,

Thanks again for all the compliments.....

If all goes according to plan we might got to Witsand in March, but the first official "sea outing" will probably be Inhaca late next year. I wish I could get it to the coast sooner, but due to lack of crew it is always difficult :swear

And yes my dad will go with me - he is even more excited than I am !

:woohoo

Will post some "action" pics as soon as I have some

Hey chaps. Great thread. Very interesting!

Thought id share some pics of a "new" Ace being born. I know she's not an "original" but its the original 15'6 AceCraft moulds and ive had her build very old school so shes going to do the heritage proud. A few more weeks, then motors and sea trials.

Cheers, Craig
