I went and fetched my boat to do some more inshore fishing closer to where I live

As some of you know, I also got hold of a more suitable tow vehicle, a second hand Range Rover Vogue TDV8

This is the strech I want to get to know and fish for a month or three:

Olifant's River mouth is on the left and The Verloren Vallei lagoon at Elands Bay is on the right (up in the top you can see Clanwilliam dam)

It is an inhospitable piece of coastline with hardly any boat traffic and not a place you want to get trapped in a north westerly

But there are beautiful bays and krantzes into the ocean

Hi Bennie,

Yes they are 2 stainless steel tanks under the seats that holds 50 liters each and then there is the 6 x 25l "jerry cans" in the fuel hatch

Yes they have pipes leading to the rear and are bolted to the floor - when we purchased the boat these tanks were fitted. Biggest downside of them I would say is weight (probably about 35 kg each), upside is the seats are very stable and solid due to them and you hardly notice them floor space wise....so not a bad idea in general I guess, nice for Inhaca trips where you have to cart all your fuel and equipment across the bay

With the 85's I need all the fuel I can get !!

That's many many years ago... You can get fuel on the island now.

True -it is just bloody expensive (or was when I was there in 2008 at least) I actually considered not re-installing the tanks but wasn't sure how I would refit the seats again (as I hardly use the tanks anyway)

I guess the penalty of having them won't exceed the benefit/practicality at the end of the day. If they where in my way they would've been long gone

HelloC,

Looking VERY good

You should try and have your batteries right in the back to compensate for all the weight up front

Hi Tika,

Yes, the batteries are in the boxes right next to the transom . How would I know if I had to much weight in front though? Attached is a pic of a Inhaca trip we did a few years ago and looking at it later it looked to me as if the boat was a bit "nose down" - but that could be due to the 300 liters of fuel in the white drums.....so difficult to say I guess

Difficult to tell from that one pic

But some quick maths:

250L + 70kg + four guys up front@ 90kg, then you are looking at close to 700 kgs forward in the boat

OK on the level as you can trim up, but could be akward if you are running down sizeable swell

Best is to speak to Shagnrelease or Breads

Thika, I have probably missed it but I have never seen you post a pic of your smaller Ace. Gooi!

These fish we caught on chum at night on Protea Reef

It used to take 45 mins from the time I hitched the boat at my house till lines down :)

Very cool. What I was trying to get to previously was "do you still have this boat" as I only see current pics of Lodie but see a 15'6 listed in your profile.
