You are right, she is an absoloute beauty. The 60's are slightly overpowered but when cruising you dont need to open taps too much, so I believe even save a bit on juice. Dont think the weight between 60 and 40 would make much difference.
This particular hull was made from Kevlar, in 1996, if that helps. She is as tough as nails, no cracks no leaks after 18 years. Just put new signage..check out the "boasting" pic

Yes I did, thank you so much.
I, like you, would really love to have the horse power up my butt to get out of trouble, but also do not want to drift and have water coming over my transim because of being butt heavy. Is there a big difference in weight between 40's and 60's. I see the max they recommend for these boats is 50's, once again, wonder if there is that much weight difference?
The boat I am looking at has a single 90 at the moment which would come off, making way for twins, will try attach, what do you think?
Checking out high fly as well. Thanx BFS, for all your input too, very confused^^..

Spoke to a mate of mine who has run 15.6 Ace his whole life and his comment was....with 40's you will be happy, with 50's you will be a bit more happy , but with 60's you will be extatic, and if you lose a motor at sea, a single 60 will bring you home easily. Petrol consumption between the three would be negligible ...unquote. My feelings exactly, I love the extra hp.

You are a legend, thanks for that.
Pretty much my sentiment too.
My one and only concern, a really good point that BFC with his vast knowledge brought up, is the weight on the transim, if you didn't have your splash-well, would you be getting water over the back in bumpy seas? That will be my deciding factor, I can lay my hands on really good condition 40's and 60's for the same price. Solve this and you solve my problem/dilemma:))))))))))) }<))))))))))))*>:wfish

Dooma,

The 40's are enough if you will only be fishing

What is the combined weight difference between the two 40's and the 2 60's?

It is still a small boat and it already rides bow up because of the steering console being towards the back

Are the 60's trim and tilt?
How many cylinders are the 40's?

I had two 50(3 cylinders)on my boat and with 4 people on board, 3 hanging over the front, I would only just get on a plane by murdering one motor

The boat turns nicely and quite flat, so also ideal for picnics and booze cruise, and for waterskiing

The bigger motors would be nice for pulling out a slalom skier and if you progress, 58 kmh is what you need to barefoot

With 2X50 Yammies I got about 1km per litre if I recall correctly

Useless information, but I once planed the boat on the river with 23 Sunday school kids on board!

The boat with two 40's will be all round better balanced in the ocean though

Hey Thika, pretty much what BFC also says, well, that will be the path I would need to follow then, really good point re the consul being far back as I will sometimes be out alone so no one to help balance weight.
Also seen this one, is it an Acecraft 16'6?? Thoughts guys?

Pic deleted as it is not an ace craft so has no place on this site.
Ace craft forever

Been out by myself with the 60's...no problem weight wise, but had my fuel tanks all full...ur tanks are at the front I presume. that boat looks like a Coast Craft but not sure...very nice hull but dont think it is an Ace

You are going to love that front console setup. I had an 17 ft Ace in the old days , very similar. What motors have u chosen. Ur boat looks beautiful, especially with that classic "Acecraft" yellow. Dont change it. U cant beat an Ace.

HelloC,

You make us proud!

My boat is crying...4 weeks no start!

But the sea has been totally onbeskof....like in 8m peak waves off Saldanha side Sunday evening....Cape Point had 50 knot winds!

What motors you planning?

Things are becoming SO expensive, really not even a pleasure anymore :(

Put some more pics if you can!

Greetings and good luck with your amazing worthwhile project!!!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the compliments....at least all the hard work is then worth it.

Fishfun as for the motors - I will have to stick to my old 85's for now - I still do hope I can upgrade to 2 x 90 Suzuki 4 strokes , but that is a lot of money ^^..

Doing the Flotex carpets this weekend and then the serious reassembly can start - and then I can't get to the water fast enough - so Thika don't feel bad about 4 months , come November this "little" exercise took me a full year! ;)

Thika, I have probably missed it but I have never seen you post a pic of your smaller Ace. Gooi!
