Hi Eran,

I wish I could have seen my boat in it's "heyday" in the days you saw it at shelley beach in the 80's - I'm not sure who the first owner was but it has quite an interesting history I'm sure, my dad brought it from a guy called Japie in 1996 and he used it for a few years in Mozambique for commercial fishing, so it has worked hard to say the least, he still said to roll that boat in the surf you will need to be really stupid! Anton de Wet from Ponta Torres camp (Santa Maria) also mentioned that he fished on this boat with the original owner many years ago @ Sodwana and did his skippers on it - so the name has obviously never changed and won't

Hi Thika,

Just some feedback on progress with the "restoration" of the boat. I am almost done with the "new" transom and have repaired all the small chips and cracks on the hull with gelcoat - so almost ready to paint her with glatex - still a lot of work but will keep you guys posted - can't wait to get her on the water again !!

HelloC,

Good to hear from you again

Glad to hear you are persevering..I think the 18,6 Ace Craft is the best mono in that size ever built in RSA

@Tammo Vink,

I recall that boat being for sale at a dealer if I am not mistaken

Sorry, but cannot recall more about it

Why don't you start your own thread and post that pic? That way most members will see it and the owner/seller may come to light

Tammo,

Looking at that pic in your post 645 above, those are the thinnest pontoons I have ever seen on a catamaran (except maybe a hobie cat :) )

I think the boat is going to bang against that flat shallow tunnel?

Also if you dip into a hole after a steep wave I think you are going to get water over the bow. There is very little buoyancy up front by the looks of it

Hoping for your sake I am wrong ^^..

Ace Craft were clueless when it came to CATs. Monohulls - yes, cats - no.

she really was a great boat, in a big weather and rough sea, you always knew she would get you home, she used to love running with all the new cats into a sea, as she used to give them there heads and leave them behind, it was a sad day when I sold her. She went to a guy in secunda/trichardt I think, but I believe he has since sold her on.

It was a bit of a funny story when I bought her she was called "naughty lass" and used to belong to a great marlin angler called Pierre De villiers, she was bought buy my father for R30 000.00,we then used her for 16 years and I replaced the decking re-sprayed her again, furuno electronics, carpets as well as some new axles and I put her into the Ski boat Magazine in December 2006, she was sold verbally 3 times in the same day as the magazine went to the shelves and I was getting calls for her months afterwards. It was on a first come first served basis and I had the cash notes before I left to come home from my december holiday I could not believe the response, she sold for 85K.

One of the calls I took was from a guy who used to own one of these crafts and really wanted this boat back as he had never seen a boat this old in such good condition, his name was Pierre De Villiers, her previous owner I was pretty sad that I had let her go to someone else and not her original owner, but maybe they are re-united again who knows....

we caught 42 sailfish and 29 marlin from this boat while I skipped her and I know the previous owner also caught a lot of billfish of her, so I guess there are some boats that just raise more fish....maybe it was her day-glow orange props!!!

Hi Everyone!

New to this forum and need some help in identifying my boat. Yep, I haven't got a clue what it is. Well, maybe just a small clue. There is a small metal tag on the transom that says 'Trimcraft, Pinetown' and I'm not sure if this is the builders name or the type of boat. The reason I have quoted the above post is because my boat looks exactly like Highlander which makes me think it's an Acecraft? It is 16.6ft. I will try and get some pics of her over the next week or two as she is stored about 75km away. The boat used to belong to my 24 year old son, who passed away four years ago. He loved his boat and as she has been standing for 4 years, I think it's time to return her to her former glory and get her back out on the waves where she belongs. I will be attempting this as a complete novice so expect to see me on this forum on a regular basis with LOADS of questions :)
