The infamous "daisy chain"

Hi Guys

Read a great article in a mag this week on daisy chains and how effective they really are at getting some nice live bonny's!! I have got a couple i made up in my tackle bag but have never actually used them!! After the article i read this week , i might think twice the next time im out on the big blue tho!! Anybody know which are the most effective colours or colour combinations? The most productive distance that they should be apart? Im guessing you need to pull them at a speed that they just break the surface?

Any other tricks up your sleeve that you might help get the most hook ups would be greatly appreciated boys!?:fishn

Hey Cougar,

I have found that blue and white, pink and the clear squid work well,as well as some of the cuda dusters os snoek dusters that are available.I fish mine generaly around 50cm apart and between 5-6 in a chain.

when we are looking for bait, it is a concious discission that that is what we are looking for and will dedicate 1 1/2 hours just in catching baits. our set up is as follows.

Starboard - 1 rod with outer line at around 20-25mtrs(just on the edge of the white water)
2 rod inner line 10-15mtrs (in the prop wash)
Port side - 1 rod with outer line 20-25 mtrs(as above)
2 rod with inner line 10-15 mtrs (as above)

Centre - I also dedicate a rod down the middle, right in the prop wash (5-8 mtrs) with a Rapala with the hooks removed and another daisy chain fastened with a small snap swivel to the rear eye, this brings the daisy chain below the aerated water and a bit further into the water column, we catch 50% of our baits on this rig.

but experiment they definatly do work and happy bait catching.

cheers

WoW.. thanks a million shagnrelease (hahaha... nice username)that is soo informative!!!! I know you going for bonnys mostly when you pull daisy chains but have you caught anything else on them?? Do you use a deep dive lure on that centre stick?? and is there any specific depth or area ( eg backline) that you go to target your bonnys??

what about rigging a whole bunch of drop shot minnows in the daisy chains style... that might get more pulls  ????????

no worries, yes it is a deep diver on the centre rod but the standard steel lipped rapala will work just fine.

we have caught a few shad, natal snoek and cuta with these, but we tend to get bitten of as we on use nylon to make up these rigs, however we have gotten lucky once or twice.
