The BIG One that got away

We all have had does fishing days where we rather should have and stayed in bed. Well Sunday was one of does days……

We decided to take the Boat down to Sundays river mouth, fishing on the surf has been BAD the past 5 weeks and I just needed to prove to myself that I can still catch something.

Well nothing much happened and after fooling around for about an hour we decided to head home, on the way I decided to try one more time by drifting over the sandbanks. The tide was not very strong but I was in a hurry to get the bait in the water. After putting on some pencil bait made the cast, I put the rod down to light a cigarette, as I turned to shield from the light breeze I saw out the corner of my eye my rod fly from the boat and speed off (I must have forgotten to release the brake) I did not even have time to jump in to save rod it just sped off and disappeared under the water

The question of what took the bait and what was its size over shadows the loss of rod and reel and will haunt me for a very long time

Klink vir my soos die werk van 'n steenbras of grunter? Veral met die aas wat jy gebruik het en omdat jy oor sand banke gedrift het... Eish dis sad as so iets gebeur. Sal jou vir altyd pla!

I reckon it was a 100 kg tree stump lying in the river after the floods from last year !!!! - never caught one before myself , but i believe the break you off everytime .
