Terrace Bay, Namibia

Hi all,

New to the forum.

I have a trip coming up in March next year in Terrace Bay, Namibia.

I have recently started kayak fishing in the cape and am wondering if its worth it/allowed to kayak fish within the Terrace Bay Reserve? I know there are economical down sides to schlepping a kayak all the way up there.

Also is one allowed to catch West Coast Rock Lobster (Kreef) there?

Have not been to Namibia for many years, so unsure what the rules are currently.

Any advise/links/contact details would be greatly appreciated.

Just been there. Love that place. Not sure if kayak fishing is allowed, but you will struggle to launch. No beaches only rocks. You will damage your kayak. Same with lobster not sure if you will be able to get to them.

The best advice would be a leker pair of boots and warm jacket. And lots and lots of sinker. Would take between 5-10 sinker per day. You loose a lot a sinkers.

Ok awesome thanks will definitely do that!

Yes those rocks and surf would make it way too difficult for the yak, thanks for all the info !

Not sure about the kayak fishing, I wouldn't go in that water.
The fish are often close by so you don't need to cast far, they are almost at your feet at most places.
Lures work well if weighted as you often cast directly into the wind but silver spoon works well.
Heavy drop shot also works well, paddle tails will slaughter the kob.

Some things that improved my experience is to take decent pair of sunglasses and face cover so you don't get sunburned easily, the water is also cold and wind blows off the sea right at you.
I'd drive around at low tide to check out the "holes"
I always start at Steenbras Rif.

Any advice for the dropshots? Colours/Weights/Profile. Slowly gathering all the tackle
