Tatler Supreme Big Game Reel (No. 5)

Hit a luck recently while discussing "old" big game reels with a friend who worked with John Pledger in the Seventies; turned out my friend a few old reels, in new and unused state with all original packaging.

Amongst the "goodies" in his garage was a Tatler Supreme Big Game Reel (No. 5) with a full spool of 30lb Cortland dacron, needle and tool kit. He included a matching Purglass rod in the deal so I just had to buy it.

I have since used the rod / reel combo to take a nice bull Dorado and staunch Cuta off Zavora point.

Am in the market for similar Tatler reels - PM me if you have one.

I have a Tatler mk4 that I used extensively during the 70's.  Heavy strong British reel, eventually switches to a Penn 49a.

Some guys still swear by Tatlers, even today!

I bought one from a friend of my dad's who emigrated some time back, Tatler 5. Its a beast of a reel. He used it soley to catch Cracker at Cape Receife. Been thinking of using it for Shark. Out of interest, what would one pay for one of these?
