Targeting spawning bass

Is this not a very questionable practice? Surely you affect the fish and hence the ability of the population to keep their numbers up?

I see a lot of guys complaining about spawning fish being removed but I am sure that just by hooking and releasing a fish you affect the quality and potential of its spawing ability?

Dis waar. My 2c.

I dont think that catching a bass and throwing it back is such a bad thing for the bass. I mean, will it even remember it has been caught like 5 seconds after it has been released?
And, i dont think anyone wants to have a bunch of limp bass in a dam or anywhere, so maybe this is a way to make sure only the strongest survive?
Im sure there are greater threats in the water than a catch and release fisherman?
Just a thought...i have not read/know anything about this stuff.

Hi guys!

The Americans practice catching bass on nests BIG TIME and their populations seems fine to me.

I too have been a "nest raider", but handle the fish with care, and release them quickly etc and nothing should happen to them!

I suggest to you Rookster to read the article I did on spawning behaviour a while ago...unfortunately in Afrikaans, English version will be available soon...

( unfortunately not available  in Zulu,Xhosa,Sepedi or Sotho...)LOL!
