Hi, I'm going on a business trip to Tanzania at the end of the month and will be taking a light spinning kit and some lures with. Anybody got some advice on fishing the Mtwara/ Mikindini area and Dar es Salaam? I don't really care for catching big stuff, but a few new species will be awesome!

Don't go too light, anything swims out there.. Off the side with a plug/spoon you can get barracuda, gt's and kingies, garfish etc. But you never know what may hit you in those waters. There is good fishing around just offshore for small school size yellowfin and dorado so maybe take a medium/light boat outfit along and get a small boat to take you out for a mornings fishing. Look on youtube there are quite a few good videos of fishing around there..one that comes to mind is the "the fishing adventurer" tanzania episode.

Enjoy!

Thanks, I had a look at the clip, awesome! Unfortunately I'm only packing one light setup (Stradic 5000 with 10lb fireline and 9ft rod), but if all goes well then the next trip I'll take some heavier gear and bigger plugs for those GTs. Definitely going on a charter if I have enough time.
