hi guys...need some input regarding running rigs for rock and surf....every time i put out a running rig, whether its a kob, steenie or cracker rig...they all seem to be tangled to hell when i reel in.call me stupid, but that tangled rig is bound to burn itself off if i got stuck into a decent fish.does this happen to any of you guys?can anyone tell me how to prevent or lessen the tangle?any input will be much appreciated, respect

Are you using float or not? What swivels are you using? I noticed that the normal barrel swivels tend to do this but after started using crane swivels, my bite trace stayed straight.

It also depends on what line you are using as trace. Anything thicker than .40 usually gets into a tangle when the peckers start attacking it. I use 12kg TechniPurlin as trace line and usually get about three to four trips out of it before I have to change it.

hi Mike, thanks for your reply...no float and i use normal power swivels...also i use between 20 and 40lb flouro...depending on the situation.i will give a lighter line a shot.see what happens.just concerned fishing for bigger, stronger fish like cracker 12kg line will probably not cut the proverbial cheese....

Hi mrcricket, I find that the crane swivels provide easier rotation than the power swivels.

I know there are power swivels that cost an arm and a leg that provides good rotation but I get my crane swivels from Big catch in Paarden Eiland. They are well priced and awesome swivels to use for eds and non-eds depending on the target size.

I am going to go out on a limb here and state that I get better results with mono-filament for trace line than flourocarbon. I use the mono for eds only but when the bronzies and flatties are on the run I will hook up a 1mm fluoro trace! ;)
