TALICA II - Some Fact's

So I've not let this one rest as I'm still looking for the Tn50A or something as close as dammit to that.

I've been on a long while about it and got hold of one to put through it's paces.

Here it is (Right) alongside a Tn 50 and a Tn40 spool in front of it

So there's been a lot of questions as to capacity, size and weight and nothing is easier than having it in hand and "Om te Meet is om te Weet"

All have a 22mm thick spool, all have a 72mm Diameter spool lip. It's just the Width of the spool that differs.

This diagram is to scale

Triple dogs on the shaft gear which fits neatly over the shaft, no backlash here

Same bearing system as the 16. 3 Bearings and as with the 16, packed absolutely full of grease.

Spun the empty still greased spool and got 20-26 sec spin time tops.

Washed the grease out, iron oil from Smoothdrag and now spins 1 min 10 sec on empty spool, 20 sec longer than my empty Tn50.

Around 100gr heavier than the Tn50 but when full probably 80gr difference tops.

But triple dogs, ridiculously smooth and powerful drag, 2 speed, capacity.

Preset your drag to 80% your mainline's breaking strain and be assured you will never snap your line or preset your strike (75%) drag to 80% you're mainline and be able to lock up and hold.

No more fighting a star, no more burn't thumb getting a lock down to set a hook and then releasing to let a brute run hard.

Here it is with 650m of 80lbs Whiplash and enough room for 250m+ of 0.60mm and windon.

Reel sits about 5mm lower on the rod than the Trini 50 so if anything it'll be easier to cast and with the super smooth spinning spool will cast a long way.

Beag R&S reel, heavy jigging, bait fishing for Tuna, kite fishing, Swimbaiting, all in one.

Pricey but a lifetime of quality and durability.

Hope to get some serious pulls in the next month and put it to the test.

Harness lugs are removable without stripping the reel down, simply remove the 2 retainer screws. the reel frame remains sealed.

Nice Craig. I can't wait to see it in action.
Bilimoria have one one on the shelf at R4500. A lot more reel than a Saltiga hyper for less money. Luckily they were about to close so I never had time to take it out the box and be tempted::balance:

Not the first time they've offered prices like that.
It is what they want for it because when I was last there I looked at the Talica 16 and asked the price and it was about R4500 but they never had a Talica 25 so when I went in last night to look at nets and get a few things I saw the Talica 25 on display and asked how much? They scanned it and said R4500!!! at which point I quickly got out before I started divorce proceedings LOL

@ enigma I'm keen on a report back on this reel after all the fish you caught on it recently on your P.E./Jeffreys trip with Feri. How did the reel perform? and whats the casting like?

Had a feel on the one at billimoria today
Awesome reel. Beautiful drag and should cast fairly easy
Like craig says clean the bearings and put hot sauce. I recon she will throw far

Now I've got something to dream about. Lol :fbash

The weight shouldn't be an issue at all
Caution should be taken if buying one as u may want to sleep with it

Beautiful reel

Fished it hard for 4 weeks from beach and rock. It fished every session and was subjected to wading, swimming dumping in the sand.

I haven't serviced it like I did with the other reels as I want to really put it to the test.

When I finished up it was still casting further than the 50 that I cleaned up.

The drag is silky smooth and when cranked up is still to strong for 0.80mm nylon.

Gear ration changing still without hassle and so strong that retrieving swimbaits is a cinch and popping a Grapnel is as easy as switching down and winding, no more over the shoulder hanging on a rod.

Personal verdict is that if I had the budget and was a 365 day a year saltwater guy I would be fishing the 16's instead of the Trini 30 on rock, beach, kayak, jigging, trolling and chunking and the 50 for deepwater points, swimbaits, kite and aquacats.

I'll do a full report as soon as the reel is back from PE and I strip it down to clean and lube it.

This is what the Saltist 50 looked like half way through the trip, customers have no worries about tackle

The Talica went 11 days longer so it has been pushed past normal conditions angling for 10 years and has some serious scratches after Feri took a big fall with it.

Much harder and less scratching than the old Trini and also less visible

Jeepers Craig that 25 sounds like a true beast in terms of cranking power, drag,casting... well everything really. One day when I'm big I'll get one.

Never any doubt about it's smoothness and pulling power but I'm suprised it can outcast a TN/TOR50. That extra 100g makes the spool of the Talica more than 10% heavier and the Tor50 is already a bugger to get spinning. Having a spool that spins for a long time is no good if all the power in your cast is absorbed by getting the spool spinning.(unless the extra resistance helps to load the rod some more)
I guess that because the Talica spool runs on the shaft that there is less friction when compared with a Tor50 that has a shaft running through the pinion gear. That friction between the shaft and pinion obviously has more effect than the weight of the Talica25 spool.

Good to hear but it will be a long while before my budget can accomodate one of these babies.

Hi Alton

No bit of a mix up here. The reel is 100gr heavier as a result of more machined alu and 2nd main gear to accommodate the 2 speed and the 3 dog paws and the thicker shaft.

Due to the fact that the spool is hollow to accommodate the thicker shaft and bearings it is lighter.

The spool spins on the shaft and bearings and not like the 50 where the shaft and solid spool spins on the bearings.

So in actual fact the spool is lighter and starts faster and with well oiled bearings spins longer.

Therefor casts better but needs controlling as it is super fast and on the slow down tends to flare a bit but a pleasure to cast with

Aaaah!! of course I should have picked that up as well, how can a spool weigh 940g :fbash I do understand exactly how the spool works, it's the same principle as the Penn Fathom/Torque and the Ambassedeur Ultra Cast.

Well now you just made me want one even more seen as the only "flaw" has become yet another advantage. Now everytime I go to Bilimoria I will have to leave my credit card at home.......I wonder if my wife can tell the difference between a Tor50 and a Talica 25:spite
