TALICA 25 II - MAGNETIC CAST CONTROL SYSTEM

Recently a PE Sealine member had a chat with me, about magbrakes etc for a few of his reels and then mentioned that he was wondering if I could see if his Two-Speed Talica 25 could be fitted with a magbrake too.

Seeing that Postnet charge the same R 99-00 price up to a 5kg parcel, he decided to send it along.

Now, I have done a Saltist BG leverdrag recently and you quickly figure that it's different to stardrags in a few ways.

Biggest challenge was to compensate for the spool shifting  more than just a bit to the left when you pull the lever back to full freespool for casting, possibly causing clearance problems.

To make a long story short - after overcoming the very tricky fitment of the right shape and profile magplate in the conical left side of the frame and making sure that we have a large enough range of adjustibility, the reel was good to go and will be tested very soon in PE waters.

Will post a couple of pics tonight.

Watch this space !

Cheers.

How's that for triple anti- reverse dogs, that bite in perfectly synchronised unison ???

The reel had a massive gain in freespool after the spool shaft and it's three spool bearings were degreased and relubed with ReelX - now the magforce must do it's magic !

:)

CC...thanks for the great thread.

Im going to war with my T25ii at Mazeppa shortly, after-which we can talk.

Hope to hear some favorable reports from the PE angler, in the meantime.

Sorry guys, I forgot to show the "numberplate" for those who don't know this reel that well !

A real (reel) looker !

i have been fishing this reel for over a year.
excepth for removing of grease on bearing andnoiling it there no need to modify amything on this reel.
its perfect as is.

Hi Tuna !

I guess you are just a way bettter caster than many of us out here - I personally don't own a Talica myself, but developed the magbrake for it on request of a couple of owners that had difficulty in casting theirs.

It will be interesting to see their feedback when the first couple of reels see some action.

What is fact, is that the magbrake on the Talica, gives you a nice range of adjustibility, as far as the amount of freespool is concerned and this might be very handy.

Cheers !

My first few casts with the Talica 25ii ended in disaster as it was overwind on overwind!

This reel was just too loose and my well trained thumb was being burned to a crisp trying to stop the spool as the sinker was descending in the cast.
I was getting a good distance of about 125m but with overwinds.

I took it to Mark Norval for some Magging magic.
He put in just one magnet stacked on top of each other and whalla!

Problem solved!

The spool is still tornado fast. The cast distance is pushing 135m.

I still have thumb the spool quite a bit, but now its controllable.

Shot Mark let the Non ed season begin!

I am very keen to get a Talica25 just as soon as my finances allow so Has there been any other feedback about Magged Talica 25's?

I have always been on the fence with cast control systems but since acquiring a BM T53 Bronzie and feeling how fast is can get a sinker accelerating I think that considering cast control is wise ;)

Hi Splasher !

Get Mark to set up your Talica, so that you just/just don't need to thumb it anymore and you will get even better distance.

The feedback I'm getting from hundreds of MAG-IT users, that is also backed up by all the casting tests, I've done on dozens of different model reels, is that you can expect best distance results, when you find the highest spool speed, that allows you, to cast flat-out, without having to touch the spool in flight.

Even the smallest amount of thumbing, eats your distance like you won't believe and almost all users, find that a slightly slower spool, give them better distance, than one that you still have to thumb.

Remember that, apart from adding/removing magnets and/or using different size/strength magnets, you can also do further fine tuning, by moving the magnet(s) outwards on the plate to slow down and inwards to speed up.
Even a mm makes a difference and this give very fine adjustment, as you are not moving the magnet directly a mm closer to or further from the spool, but rather use the angle of the spool flange and the effect of the larger radius, for making fine adjustments.

Enjoy !

Alton I have in my own Talica and I've set it up fast like Splasher's. No actual thumbing but slight flairing of line touches my thumb, I don't move my thumb and that's enough.

I has a few customers who couldn't control the reel once the grease was washed out and that heavy spool, like with a 50 damages line when you get a decent overrun.

Magged the reels for them and they (as young bucks will) outcast me by a good 25-35m and to date have done more than 15 Talica's including 20's and 16's

Thanks Craig, I definitely like a fast spool!! so I would go for that option, it is mainly the fast acceleration that catches me out, thereafter I like the spool to run free.
.......and I am getting to know the feeling of becoming a Ballie in relation to the young guys, even Wade is starting to challenge me for distance now LOL

Talking about mm adjustments, im contemplating etching out mm increments on the plate in a centered vertical line, so that I can adjust by the mm increments. Is this a future idea for the mag it kits? ;)

Or not?

As I find that some users (more so if all grease was washed from the three internal spool bearings and replaced with oil), needed additional help in casting the Talica 16/20/25II,the MAG-IT kit for it, now comes with the magnets supplied as on the pic below.

Now you can adjust from way too fast, all the way to, almosr too slow and everything inbetween, with very small increments, due to the low profile magnets on top !
