Taking in your lines by boat, alone.

Hi guys,

I am fairly new here so I am not sure if there is a posting limit, but here goes.

I bought myself a small rowing boat not too long ago, but I struggle to take in my lines when I'm alone. The lines always follow the wind because it floats above the surface of the water, and then the whole process is a mess.

So my question is, how can I make sure my lines are straight when I row them in when I'm alone?

One line at a time and take the rod with you on the boat.

It's going to be difficult rowing back and managing a rod haha, I will give that a try!

Im no fresh water fisherman, but i have fished a few times with mates in the vaal.

Not knowing what techniques the fresh water fishermen used, i witnessed a pretty serious event take place with the guys fishing next to us.

The chap rowing out had about 4 line he was rowing out and because of the wind and current his rowing action was pretty jerky.

This caused his reels to overwind even though they were on ratchet. The lines obviously went tight and all 4 hooks lodged deep into the guys legs.

Before the incident happened, i was thinking jeez that looks dangerous.

Eventually, we had to run over, take the rods out of their holders and walk into the water with them to give the poor guy slack, so he could try row in.

I'd strongly suggest you keep your trace on the stern and as was mentioned, only row one bait out. Then when out there drop another and row it in with the ratchet on.
