Dear Pieter

Thank you for your interest in our marine fish tagging project. The ORI Tagging Project has now been running for over 26 years and there are approximately 3300 active taggers. In total there have been 237 000 fish tagged in South African coastal waters, including Mozambique and Namibia to a lesser degree. Although the tagging program involves the cooperation of the public and the large angling community that exists, the tagging of fish is still a science with the primary aims of learning more about the movement patterns, growth rates, fish mortality and population dynamics of our important linefish species. This information is also extremely valuable for predicting stock sizes and subsequent linefish regulations. If you are interested in making a significant contribution to the world of science, live near the coast, fish often and know your different fish species then please right a small (250 words max) motivation as to why you want to become a member of the tagging program. Please note that that there is an initial cost of R250-00 if you are accepted as a tag member, which includes all necessary tagging equipment, a manual and a DVD to show you how to tag correctly and what fish species to tag.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards

STUART DUNLOP
