Hi guys, I'm looking at a new 5000 size spinning reel and stuck between the sustain fg and the stradic fk! Any recommendations? Or should I go for the older stradic fj?

FJ is great, only thing to consider is spare parts availability, Shimano don't keep making them forever. From what I understand there is a 5 year period in which discontinued reels are still supported, thereafter, no joy...
Just a thought.

Before they were available here we brought one in from the US as a gift for a good friend.
So far he is impressed.
Feels really good.
Suggest you do some international research, where reel has been fished for longer (than here) regarding feedback.
New CI4 version has just been released, so there is clearly demand..

Both are excellent. FK is very good for a Stradic. Sustain is a bit lighter. The FK is a decent improvement on the previous model. And yes, own and fish with both. There is really no whrong choice. Choose the one that feels good. You will be spending lots of time with it. I had carbontex fitted to the FG. The new Stradic FK 5000 comes standard with carbon drag. Buy the Stradic FK!

Thanks for the input I-fish, I was leaning towards the fk but was not sure if the difference in price between fk and fj is worth it! Not even sure about the price of the fk compared to the sustain and fj

So you guys recon that the extra R900 for the fk over the fj is worth it?
Looking to load it with sufix Pro 8 20lbs, or would you guys recommend something else?

As I stated before. Go with the Fk. Yes it is worth it to pay more for it. I would suggest you go with the 28lb Sufix Pro8. Very thin and a very nice braid to cast. The 20lb Pro 8 could be just a little thin to get a proper line lay. Cant recall the rod you will be using, but make sure it has good braid friendly guides ie Alconites. Enjoy your Fk...it is a Fking nice reel for the price. Then fish hard, and move to a Stella. Full stop end of story.

hi pv9,

I asked cause R2900 sounds like a great price. Been shopping around a bit in CT to find a stradic fk 5000 at a good price and I found most to be going for around R3400... even saw one in a shop for like R5000
