So I haven't fished for a long time...well...since last weekend.
So my bud, Matthias, and I went to the local dam to do some punching.
We arrived at 9:15 and got on the water soon after.
It started off really slow. We fished the grass mats...nothing. We made our way to a channel between 2 islands and I pitched my punch rigged Gambler ugly Otter(Blue/Black Silver fleck) towards a clump of reeds. I felt a slight tap, then saw my line move. I struck and saw a flash of silver/green from a slab of a bass. I looked towards Matthias(Big mistake) and still felt tension...I looked back to where the fish was supposed to be and a sad sight met my eyes. The fish had come off and I had hooked onto a single reed protruding perpendicular to the bank. Proceeded to have a fit for 10 minutes.
We moved up toward the inlet and on our way out I pitched towards a clump of bushes(Not sure what they're called) and felt rocks along the bottom. I dragged the rig a few inches and felt a small tap. I set the hook hard and landed this guy at around 12:00
Matthias then left at 1:00 and I kept looking for some fish.
I got to a nice shady pocket and pitched the rig in between the reeds. I felt a massive tug and struck., but he had too much leverage and shook the hook out. Another nice slab lost.
I continued further down the reed line feeling disappointed. I felt another tap through the small patch of weeds that I punched through. BAM! Tension!
Not 5 minutes later and I felt a slight twitch of the line, I reeled down and struck with as much force as possible. I frantically tried to lip land the fish and finally got her in, tipping the scale at 1.9kgs.
I made my way towards the bank feeling a sense of accomplishment. I made one last pitch towards a floating clump of reeds that must have been blown from the top of the dam. I had yet another take but lost him
It was a slow day but ended up being worthwhile. The hook to land ratio with these punch rigs are very low but they sure do catch big fish!
Once again I am very proud of how the Falcon Cara T7 Amistad handled those fish. Love it!
