Surf fishing rod

I'll answer you're PM here

It's a case of Sh.....t Happens mate.

Even high end rods break although a breakage is more prevalent in entry level rods.

There's generally not a BAD rod on our market as a distributor cannot afford to sell inferior product into the market.

SO what could have gone wrong as this is the 2nd cast on the rod?

1. You could have overloaded the rod.... You didn't indicate which model of TruFlex the rod is and what you were casting

2. It is a new rod and has been shipped from the Chinese factory to the RSA distributor to a Tackleshop to your house and then to the dam. As far as I know these rods are supplied without a protective tube. What I'm getting at here is that it could have been damaged at any stage of transport.

3. In this case the most likely answer is a blemish in the carbon sheets. It could be a irregular lay of fibers, less fiber in a spot or an air bubble in the wall of the tip causing the side wall to collapse.

Because the tip must flex the most it has the thinnest walls and lowest diameter. End result is that the most likely part of a rod to break if there is the smallest imperfection would be the tip

So it's 99.999999999% not your fault and as it has happened to a NEW rod they supplier will surely replace the tip.

You procedure is to take it back to the shop you purchased it from and they will arrange replacement with the supplier.

This should be your first and definitely not the last rod you will break. If you never break a rod then you never cast a rod to it's full potential and definitely do not get out to FISH NEARLY ENOUGH

Sorry to hijack this thread........
Is a grinder rod blank at risk when using it to cast a multiplier reel???

When i say grinder rod blank ....i mean grinder rod with grinder eyes.
I did have the reel reel seat lowered, that is because i am more comfortable fishing with a short butt.

It is a Shimano exage old model 100S
10ft, 2 piece , casting weight of 200g.

Spoke to my local rod builder.....
He stated it will be fine to use a grinder and a multiplier on it.
When i had the reel seat lowered i turned it around to accommodate
to use with multiplier.

I did put a multiplier on it and line does not touch the blank when
its under pressure and pulling.

It just looks a bit odd because of big guides facing upwards in multiplier mode.

Your opinions??????

No issues at all using a grinder rod with multiplier or the other way around (grinder on multiplier rod)as long as you keep to the rating.

I use my Makaira 14'6" with a Torium 50 and cast a 10oz with a 1.3mm leader with no issues.

Thanks Enigma for your opinion....
Just was a bit scared that blank might be on stress due to guide spacings.
