Hannes, what size is that beauty?
We were fishing below bloemhof dam wall over the long weekend. Unbelievably platties were not getting the action I was expecting. A previous visit to the exact same spot with platties was insane and the action was non-stop, but this time we only got 2 snorre on the first afternoon. The guy that was with us caught a big flying insect thing, 5 minutes after casting it in his reel screamed off with a serious Bus on it, unfortunately it came off. He had the insects ass left, cast it back in, and again 5 min and off it went, incredible! A nice 9kg cat! With a large fat plattie lying maybe 10m away and not getting touched.
Eventually we moved over to using fish heads. Much more productive than platties, and it seems to sift the smaller ones out. We got a 15kg, 13kg 10kg and more down. There are some srious big barbel around that dam wall.
I think the secret is to be prepared to find what they are feeding on at the time, and have as many tricks in your bag as possible.
