Hi Guys, mobile weigh stations will work. Simply radio/mobile in a catch, give them your boat name and location and they come measure. Perhaps 3 mobile stations 1 on the river section, 1 on the river mouth/entrance to the dam and perhaps one on the eastern shore of the lake. I would still then keep the weigh station at the slip as well.. I'm sure there will be sponsors who will cover mobile weigh stations fuel costs etc

Having weigh in stations running all over the show... I'm not so sure. Also handling live fish between boats, and if there's a bit of a swell... I'm not so sure. Also if a scale cannot get to an angler fast enough he is going to demand his dead fish gets weighed.
If you want the fish to be put back alive then make it a rule that no dead or half dead fish will be weighed. The guy who hasn't got a live well will now be forced to take some preservation measures, which is the idea.
The weigh in can have one of these small pools supported by wires and the fish is released in there for later release in the dam. A generator and a water pump can keep the water fresh if it pumps in the pool for the duration.
The weigh in can also be open for the duration. Any time someone wants to weigh in he can. It will also relieve the last minute rush and the que of guys waiting to weigh will be shorter.
The guys who have live wells may be allowed to keep their fish in the boats, as long as they take their boats out of the water.

The last bass comp I fished was the Albert Falls and it was in 19-something (early in the century). I cought one bass by accident, but my friend won a dragonfly !

Seriously, the guys want to win the big bucks ? Let them care for the fish a bit or you don't need them there. If the message gets across then an attitude change can be expected. If you want to extend the message then explain beforehand that the fish needs protection or there is a chance the comp will not be held in future. No fish, no competition.

I have to pay to get access into the reserve. Where does the gill netters come from ? We have taken a huge net full of badly decomposed fish out there before and gave it to the conservationist at the gate. He wasn't impressed but it was removed from the SA side and I suspect they are very aware that it was there.
Someone is too lazy to do their work or someone is pinching the cat in the dark. If it was a RHINO then you would have seen the sparks fly.
If gill netting is illegal then it is illegal, if it's rhino's or gill nets, what does it matter. Exactly how much money do you have to steal before it becomes theft :-D

hi guys i think we should make tiger fishing not only in the bonanza but all year round catch and release,they are a protected species after all.ive seen people who call themselfs fishermen,they go out catch tigers no matter howsmall or big it is and kill it just to bring it back to the campsite to show every1 that they got 1 or 2 fish,only to see buy the end of the weekend or thier stay that the rubbish bins are full of dead tigers,now wat kind of mentality is that,thats not a fishermen.this unfortunatly happens every week.even if there could be a bag limit per a boat of 2 fish a day.something to protect them,cuz as we speak they are getting fewer and fewer.

its going to be a slow process but im willing to do it.you no wat the worst of all is,is that most of it is local.the 1s who should be protecting it the most.thats why they get so agro.cuz they have been here for the last 20yrs or so,so they think they have the rights to do so,they dont think beyond of the effects that it leaves.small minded people.it makes me mad aswell.

When the Tiger is placed on the chart with the tip of the mouth against the metal strip, the “V†of the tail then determines the zone in which the fish falls. This zone has a point factor that is then multiplied by the Specie Factor. All of this has to be filmed on a digital camera. Including the release of the Tiger Fish. The footage needs to be clear and continuous without any interference or glitches.
The footage is viewed by the marshals at the end of the day and the points calculated and awarded.
Every day the charts are market with the sticker of that day to prevent cheating.

Ek is n' lid by die Crockango Klub in Rundu -Namibie en ons gebruik die kaart sisteem wat baie effektief is.As julle belang stel kan ek die manne van die klub komitee se details vir julle gee.
Ek praat onder korreksie maar ek weet dit is met baie tyd en navorsing gedoen(om die kaart op te stel )
Ons jaarlikse kompetisie vind begin Mei plaas en die pryse beloop amper n' miljoen rand.
Saam met die kaart moet jy ook video materiaal hê om jou vangs af te neem en die sone waar die vis neergelê en gemeet word en weer lewendig vry gelaat word.
Ons kompetisie is 3 dae lank en elke dag kry jy n' ander kleur sticker wat jy op jou kaart moet plak en ook op die video materiaal moet wys.

The competition went with weigh stations placed at strategic places. It worked well. The competition in December also followed the option. This method ensures that the heaviest fish wins the boat and the 20 prize winners are based on weight. Last year at the competition only 2 fish was died due to hook injury. An angler can weigh dead fish but is penalised with 500g of weight, so they do their utmost best to keep the fish alive and weigh as soon as possible after it was caught. It worked very well.

Congratulations to you guys for making this event a catch and release competition! I know that it wasn't easy, and you had a lot of obstacles to get around, but you did it, and you should be proud!
Once people get used to the format there will be no complaints, and hopefully this will contribute to the catches improving in the Pongolapoort system in the future.
