Suggest a rig please.

Where I fish there are no snags. Despite this I still fish with a single hook on a 100% free running rig.
But I want to use two hooks on my one rod, seeing there are no snags, or are the risk of hurting the fish with a second hook too high?

If it can be managed please suggest me a two hook, free running, safe, carp rig.

Hi Barbelman

The reason you only use one hook on a carp safety rig is so that the second hook cant get stuck or damage the fish.

I don't think there is a safety rig that can have 2 hooks on it and still be safe?

If you hook a fish the second hook always has a chance to hook and damage the fish or get stuck on some kind of structure making it an unsafe rig.

Plus why do you want to use 2 hooks?
Even in papgooi most of your fish is hooked on the bottom hook of the normal rietvlei rig so even if you use only 1 hook your chances are good to still catch the fish.

I haven't heard or seen a double hook rig that was safe

I would probably just stick to one hook

Two hook rigs are unsafe, period. You're not losing anything by using a single hook and you're being a lot kinder to the fish, so rather go with single hook rigs Barbelman.

Okay. I agree. I just had to make sure. Fish do like different baits though

If you want to put out more than one kind of bait, use more than one rod. You can also make up a ground bait mix with various items and present your hook bait over the top.

Only one time in my lifehad the second hook also caught the fish, so I think its fairly unimportant.
That said, you could maybe use a sliding baby shoes rig.

On the swivel under the mieliebom holder, use one hook line for both hooks, and thread it through the swivel. Use beads and gummies to keep both ends the same lenght and to protect knots. Now when fish grabs one hook it will pull the other hook to the swivel and out the way.

I was thinking about this one, but how will I keep the two lines to not tangle? O am using braid hook link.

Dont use braid? You must decide if you want to papgooi or spesie smesie. Cant do both, although some papgooiers do sometime put one hair rig on their papgooi rig with the other a normal hook

No I do use braid.
Sometimes I like to use Fluorocarbon as my mainline, but not as hook link.

I still use a mieliebom with Spesie angling. I can put what I want in it, tigers and boilies, so it works for me.
I am just always concerned that on hook might end up under the mieliebm when landing in the water, rendering it useless

I am no expert fisherman, but since I started pushing my hooks into the mieliebom, I started getting more fish. My theory, not only do the hooks lay very close to mieliebm when it comes apart. Sometmes before the mieliebom start to bliss, the fish start to suck and roll the mieliebom around, then they get your hook in the process.

Hi Bman.

There is no problem in using braid as your hooklink, but to make your rig safe when using braid(or any other hooklink), you need to make sure that the braided hooklink is the weakest part of your rig, so if your rig get stuck or the fish break it off, then the fish will only carry the hook with the hooklink instead of the the hooklink,bom,leader and line (if your hooklink is stronger than your mainline.)
This you will also save and dont have to worry about losing line on break-off.


2 hooks on a line is not safe, when fishing vaaldam I fish conventional style, and even with the trace shown above,you do get fish over a weekends fishing hooking up on both hooks, I only use a single hook and still catch more/equal amount of fish than my mates using a double hook trace.(or should i say they use to fish 2 hooks)

So the long and short of it, 2 hooks is not safe, but if you prefer it, fish it,and then report back what was your experience.
