seems to me they replaced the rod, lol :fbash.

replacing the fathom is something amazing and i doubt this will happen anywhere in the world! let alone any tackle shop! NO RECEIPT, SHOO ! ! ! !

Lucky you, I was spending R4k on a rod and reel and stuff, but they wouldn't change 1 line for another because I didn't have a receipt. She explained she needed the invoice number to check it back into stock first, after I told her I didn't buy it there. No problem, not a deal breaker since it was a long shot anyway, but it shows that it depends on who you are or who you're dealing with.

CEO,

What was wrong with the fathom?Just for intrest`s sake

Olso can`t fault suburban. Got good after sales servise also without a reciept. The priceces on thier reels is also the best in the cape.

Only thing thier braid is a bit expensive..

Regards

Marlin's service is always great, he helped me with picking a rod suitable for a coffee grinder sea rod. He advised and showed me a few options, not just the expensive one, but ones which will be suitable for me and not to make a profit for suburban.

I ended getting the blue marlin g3/14/3/els rod. great for casting as it has an extendable arm for casting, and it slides into a normal butt to place in your rod bucket.

Thanks Marlin:fishn

i think there bigger items , like reels , rods etc is definately the cheapest in the cape....

u smaller things , like there impact sinkers etc are abit pricey...but hell , we cant get all , can we?

Must say, agreed with the general comments on the friendliness and willingness to help.
Would rate the service 8/10 so far, they only dropped 2 on account of telling me they had a specific rod in store but not actually having it an hour or 2 later.
They had one almost to spec but not the spinning version I asked for, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and not call it a "bait and switch" hustle.
Very happy with the rod I ended up with though::S

Good day Gents

Elf786 they didnt replace the whole rod .The first couple of month i had the rod BM G3 the shinny ring at bottom split clean so they replaced the butt.Five months after that mid section had a hairline crack at the joint also replaced.I still have the orginal tips.

Armand steenkamp
There is no problem with the Penn Fathoms they one of the best reels money can buy.Only due to human error they forgot to grease the bearing in the first batch,if which i remember correctley starts to rust and causes a squeek. They now made sure they greased out the factory.Otherwise the reel is one of the best Eds and i landed a 50kg diamond on FTH30 no probs. So i cant fault the reel.

With smaller items i think eppecially braid or normal nylon it deficult to have that swoppped for obvious reasons.

But for the bigger items like rod and reels what i did was i contacted the agents directley who since they the only people allowed to distribute lets say Fathom why should i need a reciept when the tackleshop is only ficilitating the exchange.

I believe all products should have a serial number where by you can trace where it was manufactured and purchased(which would obviousley mean some how they had to do it in store.but it saves time and money.saves us the trouble of holding on to a reciept for a year.I do have my rod reciept but it faded all you can see i Blue Marlin.

Let me add you can get a Penn Fathom 40 and Penn battle Surf for R1899 which means you get the rod for R300 bucks at Suburban.
Now thats cheap.

Oh Armand steenkamp is that the original Seagrand you have there let me know if you wana part with it^^..

You cant always win no matter how much tackle you buy

One lucky guy that. Referring to CEO.

In the past, I've had bad service from most of the tackle shops.

But these days, I could not care less. As long as the price is good. I go in, browse around, decide what I want and buy it. There are times when I need assistance. When that time comes, I ask for it.

hi guys just want to add my few cents
When i go to ct i try to fisit as many tackle shops as possible.i like to do window shopping and see whats new, drop the goverment of at CW and off i go
My first to the 1 tackle shop(not going to name) werent that good nor that bad.then i came to suburban and 3 hours just went by without knowing it.talking and asking questions.they helped me and explained in detail to me.wich i like cause i was almost 12 years out of the fishing game.and like paul said,i phoned them set a order and they courier it to midas vredenburg.plus they help alot over the phone.
And tuckers 2 they helped me a lot too getting my new kit.of the 4 tackle shops that i was at,suburban and tuckers get my thumbs up.

Peter is very helpful with returns, he replaced a shimano vengeance for me (That he personally sold me and remembered the day) without a slip... We stood there geussing the date of purchase for about 10 minutes so he could look it up in the system and reprint the slip... VERY GOOD SERVICE!

Between Suburban Tackle and Fishing Specialist my tackle needs are more than covered! One close to my work, and one close to my house...
