Last night we spent another lovely evening on the harbour wall at Struisbaai. With 2 of my granddaughters visiting for the holidays their dad took them with to catch the bait as we were targeting kob and sharks. Lots of maasbankers were landed to their delight, and we soon had live baits in the water. 4 Spotted gully sharks and 3 kob were landed by anglers there before us, and we soon added another 3 sharks to the tally, all bronzies in the 6-10 kg bracket.
At around 10pm the first elf was landed, and soon mayhem and chaos were the order of the day as experienced and novice anglers all vied for a chance at this wonderful fish. By 12 we went home, tired and happy - both my granddaughters having caught their first ever elf, and that on light tackle. Most fish were landed using a whole sardine slowly trolled - no floats or sinkers needed.
