Stroom vis/River fish ???

Hi, I've noticed now some of the older anglers talk about a stroomvis or a river fish in the northern tributaries of the vaal, its apparently silver and grows to about 300mm, so I'm thinking a moggel, but apparently its not because they speak of a moggel and a mudfish and a yellowfish and 300mm is to big for a barb/ghielemientjie so who knows what the correct name for this fish is?

Good question,I wonder if that wasnt referring to Silverfish. Some say they’re juvenile largemouth yellows. Others say its a different species.
I remember catching silverfish as a kid in the vaal. No idea if these fish are still around? With the amount of pollution in that river I’m surprised that anything survives in there.

Yea it must be a misidentification somehow. I have a feeling its a moggel because not a lot of anglers have caught moggel so most expect a mudfish looking fish because they've never seen a moggel in real life (since reports of "river fish" mostly predate the internet era, so the fish couldn't just be googled like today.) Only other fish fitting the description is a papermouth. But they don't occur in the vaal-orange system so highly unlikely
