Strand Night Fishing (Safety)

Hi I was just wondering how safe it is to fish Strand at night, was thinking about Blakes, Melkbaai, and the spot by the fence? Do I need to fish in numbers or is it safe to just fish one or two people? Haven't fished there at night in years, so not sure if things have changed.

Fish there regularly at night and never had a issue.
Mostly fish Melkbaai as there is allot of light compared to the fence side.

Thank you so much for posting and asking, for I was going to too.

So Ive fished Melkbaai numerous times at night. Ive never had any issues in terms of safety, BUT, I find Melkbaai to be dead. All I ever catch is barbels.

Im now gonna start looking at Blakes, and / or the harbour walls. Does anyone know how these two spots are for night time fishing?

Heard from a local this Sunday that Harbour Island is quite safe at night.His son fishes there at night on a regular bases

both harbours are quite safe - old one is closed and will apparently only open next year some time

Fished past the fence for the last few weeks,sometimes till midnight. Although I went armed I never saw other people apart from guys fishing.

Can I ask, how far past the fence do you go?
Do catch anything and whats your targeted species?

so far only steenbras and kolsterte. Will start baiting up for the cob as they are coming out thick at macs at the moment, I would rather fish MACS but have no one to go with, I;m fairly new to beach fishing. I walk all the way down to the next fence.

Just make sure of regulations pertaining to fishing past the fence.

Last time I checked it was still a MPA and no fishing allowed.


Melkbaai produces good In-Ed species and nice edibles from time to time.
Old harbor wall has allot of bossie kob and elf.
Harbour Island very foul but seen some good fish come out there. Just not a fan of the scaly okes that hang out there at night.

The slip next to the pavilion also produces at night if you want to check it out.

Foose how does one get to the Old Harbour Wall and what's the best times/ conditions? I'm familiar with Harbour Island.

At the moment you cant as they are busy with construction in the harbor and not sure when they will be done.

You can however fish bikini Beach when there is colour in the water and you will get some small cob and blacktail.

Blakes very popular especially summer nights..always packed at high tide. For this reason quite safe apart from prosties and chancers lurking around. I fish Blakes and Melkbaai regularly without hooking up with buddies although we have whatsapp group and always manage to hook I into some edible.
Fish reefs as well but if you think Blakes can get crowded check out reefs
